I am so staying away from this conversation.

Lisa--yes, it's bad form to announce that "there is no God" in church. However, even in church, it's common practice for people to question the existence of one, particularly when they're trying to reconcile belief with scientific proof/evidence. Ultimately, one has to take a deity's existence as a matter of . . . faith, which is in direct contradiction to science.

If we're going to look to science to validate what we do, I don't think matters of faith are going to help us much. Whether or not we believe in energy work--or even the efficacy of massage at all--there's an entire population of left-brained people out there who need that validation in order to accept what we do. People getting defensive about the lack of research evidence would (in my opinion) be better off encouraging clinical trials to support what they instinctively believe.

*raises eyebrows* Sorry, I don't think that "rowdy" is a good excuse for personal attacks, which is what "manic, spiteful, and vengeful" sounds like. YMMV, of course.

My complaint is the phrasing. Not just him, quite a few others on here as well! And his questions are solid. I'm a skeptic who has had first hand experience. I've been classified as a psychic sponge, whatever that means. Don't know which group that puts me in. I don't practice it, because I don't understand it. I've actually avoided the "Myths of Massage" board. Sometimes I type before I think and things get dicey.

hey Erica. my only issue with Chris is that he likes to push buttons but then complain at the reaction he gets. as i and others have stated...you don't go into church coming out with "there's no such thing as God" and then expect that people aren't going to respond (with passion) to bugger off. it's human nature and he knew what he was doing when he posted his comments.

and in general i actually don't like the "scientific" members on this forum (again not on a personal level) because i came to this site to network with MTs. i also don't like the "vendors" on the forum either. but we all have our individual buttons and beliefs and so that's how forums go.

Wow. I'm surprised--and disheartened--at the hostility I see on here towards Chris. I don't think he's manic, spiteful, vengeful, or anything of the sort. I do think he could have used better phrasing in his initial challenge regarding energy work, but I think the questions he has are solid. I don't see anyone getting pissy on the "Myths of Massage" board when others' long-held beliefs are challenged.
