You are welcome, Gary and Thank you, Erin. I've looked at the sites you offer and I don't feel they are the best option for me at the moment for a number of reasons. One is the complexity of what my full offer is (I do quite a bit more than massage) but more importantly, I am in a major life transitoin right now; doing a lot of travelling and not settled enough to even offer a proper address. This fall, however, watch out, world (um, in Warsaw, Poland) - I'm getting ready to start playing BIG! Good wishes to all of you, O.

Hi Gary, I had a look at your website and I'm totally impressed.

 

However, a few things struck me that could use improvement. (and this was a few days ago, so maybe they've already changed).

 

One was the use of the term "cancer victim". Perhaps "survivor" is a stronger, more empowering term, or if you actually do oncology support in your work, I would make that clearer.

 

In your bio page, I was surprised to read about your fantastic qualifications as a personal trainer at the very bottom. These seems like a super aspect of who you are and how your work stands out from other therapists' It tells me how you'll be able to help the client do something more than relax - you could actually could offer total body-reconditioning with massage, nutrition and exercise - transformative and healing work. That's more than a massage! I would encourage you to highlight these aspects and skip the bits about animals liking touch (as this isn't really about you.)  Like Lara said, keep it short and sweet; stressed out people won't read; they need a massage FIRST. :-)

 

Also, I wonder if it's possible for that link to read "About Gary" rather than "The Practitioner". I personally find that to be more enticing.

 

Finally, congratulations on this site. It really shines with *professionalism* - client forms, F.A.Q, benefits, etc. Wow  It's really great that you were motivated to put it together and I imagine this will translate to your success once you graduate!

Unfortunately, my school's insurance protects me and other students only when we are sent out to clinics under their direction.  And I just cannot afford the insurance right now.

But, as noted on my website, I am available for massage (free to seniors; homes, etc) and student massage at give-away prices through my school. Additionally, I accept all who ask for a massage from me personally and come to my home.

I love the free  (and free for charity) services. In this case, I believe that what you give will almost always come back to you in the form of a return client (and  the friends and family members of those clients). Offering free services helps to expand the overall client base of the industry as well, as it exposes people to massage that perhaps wouldn't otherwise have ever received one. The next time they come they will pay, and gaining a steady client, in my opinion, is worth a free hour. I love it. But only one freebie - then it's full price.

I also offer free massages until I am certified. They are first come first serve and must be booked in advance. I feel this is a good way to get my name out there and build my client base before I have the extra expenses of my own office. I have a client base now of about 150 :D And so far ... "knock on wood" no complaints! LOL so if each of those can spread my name to three people and bring me back someone I have a good start! 

 

I also leave my student business card with my tip whenever I eat out. I tell them to call me for a free appointment anytime between now and march. I have a few openings left! 

 

Once I am certified ... I fully intend on working as a volunteer stress relief provider at hurricane evacuation shelters offering Massage And Reiki to those who want it. Living on the coast, it is one way I can give back to the community. So the free massages will continue but in a different way. :D

I aso did Free Massages  at the Pensacola Massage Center once I finished Swedish and up until I was licenced. Now I also do free massages to help raise money for the Council on Aging which suppoets the United Way and Breast Cancer Awareness. I try to never pass up an opportunity to give away a free massage. My free massages usually help raise money for some charity out there.
