Hey everyone,
I admit I haven't spent a lot of time reading through this board, so apologies if this answer is blatantly posted already! Anyhow, I on;y know how to blend my own oils at the moment. I use very little in massage so that I have more of a drag effect than a glide. I prefer thicker creams for this reason and have liked the Sacred Heart cream in the past. My question to experienced cream makers is this: what are the ingredients that make a lotion more gliding ( so I know which to avoid) and what is the best way to make a thicker type cream. I also like beeswax based emollients since they have a bit of the drag effect while still feeling nice for the client. Thanks for your input!

Hi Sanna and welcome.
Thank you for mentioning the Lavender allergie, it is so true! I came across a few people who are allergic to it as well. (aloe vera too!)
check out Mike's discussion on top for one of my lotion recepie which does include almond oil but it can be substituted with coconut or jojoba or any other oil you like to use. I love making my own lotion!

Hi Kathy,
After looking up what HcG is, and not knowing for sure what reactions you might be dealing with - I would suggest discussing your concerns with a pharmacist. Their training is such that they'd probably be the best informed people to talk to.

Hi all! This looks like a fun group! I am interested in making my own lotions- so far I've only made my own oils by combining almond, safflower and vitamin E oils. I also have a blend without the almond for those clients with nut allergies. I don't have much knowledge in essential oils, so I haven't delved much into those blends.

I do have one note of caution though, in general when using products. Aside from being aware of nut oils, there are also a handful of people allergic to lavender. I have personally always disliked the smell of lavender, but didn't realize I was actually allergic to it until I used it as a practitioner and broke out in a rash after several uses. I also had one client tell me about her known allergy, while having another client discover that she too was allergic to lavender, about the same time I discovered my own sensitivity to it. I know it's not very common, but just wanted to put in a word of caution about it! (Especially because it seems that lavender in some forms is ok for me, but in massage lotions or in bar soaps, it is definitely not!)
I look forward to hearing everyone's tips on homemade products!

Nicola, I may be incorrect in this, but as I understand it, mineral oil is a petroleum product and not only does it clog, it can be toxic. I would check that one off the list especially for use on someone stuggling with acne. Olive oil may be good as it is high in vitamin E and antioxidants that help combat bacteria.... and according to my herbal remedy book, tea tree oil is antiseptic and antibiotic, calendula promotes healing, and lavender is one of my favorites for soothing plus it's supposed to be antibacterial.

Does anyone have a good recipe for a body mask/wrap for cellulite and or detoxify? I would like to try and make my own. I have looked up some things online about how to make them but would like some experienced input.

Also has anyone tried using oatmeal in a wrap or is that not a good idea?

Criss--I have a bunch of tallow I rendered last fall and have been plinking around and thinking about teaching myself to make soap. Haven't done any of it yet, but can't be that hard.

Hi Criss and welcome and welcome to all other new members!
I am also making my own massage cream and I love it. I would love to hear who you are using for supplies and what recepies you like.
There is a member here, Donna WHitten I think, who makes soap- I hope she will say hi in the next few days and you can ask her about soap making.

Is it something she can control with diet VS topical?

Does anyone have a good blend for a client who experiences hormonal acne on her back, shoulders and neck? We have tried mineral oil, straight almond oil, and olive oil and also tea tree and lavender blends. Any suggestion would be grateful, as she would like the oils to be healing for her skin too.
