Eeris: From what I'm reading regarding making massage lotion I would say it's not much more difficult than that. You have to weigh your fats and make sure there's a correct balance of water and lye versus the fats, get them within 3 degrees of each other before stirring together and continue stirring until it reaches a certain texture.

Homemade soap is all I use now, it's so much easier on my and mine family's skin. My hubz favorite is when I add crushed oatmeal for the extra moisture.

Donna, I never looked into making soap, is it complicated?

Lisa Thank you for your suggestions! I was not comfortable with the idea of using borax. From what i read it was described as a natural mineral, and since there is such a minute amount i let it go. I will look into the cornstarch and arrowroot.

Eris,
The website you suggested looks great and I will search some products out and let you know how the next session comes out.

I've recently started making my own soap for personal use and seeing this group made me start thinking about what I should be doing for my clients. I look forward to reading recipes and trying out some.

Eeris,
Thanks so much for sharing the recipe -- sounds like a lot of work, but is no doubt skin enhancing with all of those lovely oils and butters. From where do you purchase the ingredients? I was very surprised to see that you use Borax in the lotion, as Borax is a key ingredient in a highly effective home-made insecticide that I mix up to kill ants, roaches, and fleas. If you are using that strictly as a thickening agent, I wonder if cornstarch or arrowroot might work as a less toxic option.
