Bodyworkers of Oregon

So, I guess my main idea for this group was for it to be like a gateway to in-person connection.
Here are some examples:
Maybe I'm visiting my sister in another Oregon town, and I want to get a massage while I'm there. I can come on here to the discussion forum and say, "Hey, anyone in wherever have an opening on whatever day?" That way seems to me like less of a hit-or-miss situation than just looking up someone in the phonebook once you get there, and this way you're already familiar with the one giving you a massage.
Or, maybe I am thinking of trying out a new product in my practice, but I want to experience it first. I can ask the members of this group if they use it, and if anyone in my area does, I can go make an appointment with them so I can feel what it's like as opposed to just hearing people's opinions about it.

But of course, we can use this group for whatever. So, welcome!

Hey Shauna, yes you can absolutely add modalities to your practice anytime, with or without "official" CEU's. I think once you've been practicing for a while, you are much more able to learn things just by reading them or seeing them on a DVD, but at the beginning, you may be more likely to have to learn from a seminar. It just depends on the person, I think, and experience level.

Hi I'm looking for some info...I am looking to add additional modalities to my practice.  Do I have to go to a hands on class to be able to practice what I learn or will a continuing education dvd, webinar, etc. be adequate for practice.  Do I have to get a certification?  or just CE course..

I am a fairly new massage therapist here in Salem, OR. I am passionate about massage and really love what I do!  I am currently leasing a massage room and working at a spa at a resort!  I am working on building my business so I don't have to work for anyone but my own clients.  Does anyone have any good suggestions on ways to market and build my client list for my own business? So far, it's mainly been word of mouth and referrals.  Anyway, I look forward to suggestions.

Thanks!

A Note to Group Members:
Just a friendly reminder: when adding content (that you are asking people to reply to) to the group, in the future please start a discussion instead of just leaving a comment. This keeps things nice and tidy. :)

That's all! I hope everyone is doing well!

Thanks Cara for the feedback. I am actually comparing Educating Hands which is here in Miami as a possibility. i think we may not be able to move as soon as possible and I know they are a good school as well. It's great to know that there are two good options out there as well!

Hey Cara, I went to East West also, like 18 years ago and also taught there for three years. Glad to hear it's still doing well

Laura, I attended East West College 3 years ago. It is a very good school! Very technically thorough. I have a friend that went to Oregon School of Massage and she speaks highly of it.

Hey Denea, yah I bill insurance from time to time. Many therapists don't like to mess with it, but it's actually not too bad.
