Hi all! I haven't been on here for some time, just checking in ;) I'm an LMT in Western PA, and I have been massaging since 1999. Hello and I enjoy to read every LMT's posts!  I am an Ashiatsu Therapist, and have a few other things under my belt. Just cruising through, and my question is, or comment: What do you all think of our licensing process and our State Board?

I did my application through the reciprocity option.  Was just curious about the length it took others. I'm guessing most people grandfathered in or went the testing route.

Only took me a little over a month, after I took the national boards.

Took me about 3 months from start to finish (Applied in May, got my license in early September).  Keep copies of everything you send, and request copies/receipts of anything you have sent from another agency.  Be patient.

It took me two months, but I did it at the very beginning when they were probably overloaded with applicants - also, they requested info I had already submitted, (so had to re-submit the same information twice, they would not accept my character reference because they thought it was my husband,(how would they even know I was married, or what my husband's name was....that was another delay - they insisted that crinimal background check via State Police record come directly from that office, but that office will not do that (State Board finally changed that requirement)----------in other words it was a royal pain for absolutely no reason....but I finally got my license so all worked out in the end = expect delays, and frustrations but hang in there.

Times: 9:30AM to 6:00PM on Thursday-Saturday. 9:30AM to 12:30PM on Sunday. Additional optional non-credit hours on Sunday 1:30PM-3:30PM

This is a true workshop, limited to 12 participants. Yes, you will get lots of information about designing your class, marketing it, and actually teaching it. But you will also put what you learn to use right in this workshop. Come prepared to write syllabi, learning objectives and lesson plans for your class, actually try out part of your presentation with your classmates, prepare a written plan for implementation of your marketing strategy, decide what level of certification is right for you, and if it is National Certification, actually begin to fill out the NCBTMB application at the end of the class. The learning you will get in this class will apply to all state agency requirements, and even other disciplines.
