Reiki Energy International To Host Health Fair July 10 at Clock Tower

Reiki Energy International will host its inaugural REI Health Fair & Expo at the Clock Tower Resort and Conference Center in Rockford from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on July 10, 2010.
The REI Health Fair and Expo event will feature heath-conscious sponsors and vendors showcasing health benefits, services and products to the community in a free-to-the-public setting. The fair will include products and information from local and national businesses and is designed to build a more health-conscious community. The fair will be held in a 10,080-square foot conference facility while symposiums and lectures will be held in a separate meeting room throughout the day.
Reiki Energy International is seeking sponsors to help present its first regional health fair. There will be 40 to 45 vendors for the event, which will be held from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m.
In-Kind sponsors already secured for the REI Health Fair & Expo include the four Nutrition Works health care stores in the Rock River Valley, and The Rock River Times newspaper. There are no paid sponsors at this time. Other participating agencies include the Rockford Health Council. Numerous vendors and speakers already have been secured. Booth prices are $15 for nonprofits, $25 for businesses and $35 for product sales booths.
The banquet room at Clock Tower is large enough to accommodate hundreds of people. The seminars will hold approximately 25 people and pre-registration will be offered. There will be four one-hour seminars offered during the day at no charge. Topics include "Childhood Nutrition Tips," "Parental Stress Relief," "Prevention and Supplements" and "Reiki in a Clinical Setting."
REI operates entirely with volunteers who will work the event as well as operating booths giving demonstrations. Volunteers also will assist in booth sales and promotion. The organization also will help provide speakers and secure other speakers for the event. Many volunteer speakers have committed to this event. REI volunteers will also gather survey information. Raffle tickets given at the door will be numbered to keep count of attendance.
There are no major health fairs in Rockford at this time. This event would provide a platform for clinical and complementary medicine as well as health care outlets along with products and services that currently are available in northern Illinois and southern Wisconsin.
Sponsors will be mentioned in press releases and other event materials as a grant donor. We also will acknowledge them in TV interviews as well at the event through program mentions and verbal PA mentions. The Rockford Health Council will be an interagency sponsor.

About REI:
Reiki Energy International is organized exclusively for charitable and educational purposes, including the distribution of energy healing services to individuals and organizations.
The organization's primary goal is to encourage greater awareness of Reiki energy work throughout the local and surrounding areas. Membership is open to documented Reiki providers throughout the world. REI promotes the education and awareness of Reiki through a not-for-profit structure. REI also serves as a certification agent for Reiki degrees and lineages.
REI was certified in July 2009 as exempt under section 509 (a) (2) Public Charity status of the Internal Revenue Code. Current members include Reiki Masters and Reiki practitioners in the northern Illinois and southern Wisconsin areas as well as from other areas in the United States and the world. Prospective members must hold a Reiki certificate and be able to demonstrate their ability and knowledge at each degree held.
Reiki sessions are held the first Thursday of the month from 6:00 to 8:30 p.m. and are open to the public. Members’ only meetings/sessions are held the third Thursday of the month from 6:00 to 8:30 pm. All sessions are held at the Community of Christ Church, 6103 Forest Hills Road, Rockford, IL.
The group also takes part in Reiki Shares at Rock Valley College on Wednesdays at the Bell Campus from 6 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. during the spring, summer and fall semesters.

Event Goals:
The REI Health Fair & Expo has three primary goals:
1. To create an awareness of current health-care products and services to residents of Northern Illinois.
2. To create an awareness of energy healing and other complementary medicine techniques as they relate in a clinical health setting in the Rockford area.
3. To provide the Northern Illinois area with a health fair that not only features local vendors but also provides free seminars to deal with current life health issues for all residents of northern Illinois and southern Wisconsin.
All contracts have been signed and REI is under a blanket insurance policy for the health fair as well as every activity it participates in.
Up to 40 REI volunteers will be used at the REI Health Fair & Expo and will provide free Reiki treatments. There are no paid members of REI. For more information about REI, visit us at: www.reikienergyinternational.com.

Potential Outcomes:
The use of a ballroom and a meeting room will facilitate the anticipated outcome of informing the public about current health issues and recommendations along with informing them about local services and products.
Attendance will be the main source of measurement, but also onsite surveys will be used to solicit general comments. We also will be keeping track of attendance for each of the seminars/symposiums to be held in the meeting room. This will help gauge community interest and help in the selection of future speakers.

Future Goals:
REI plans to maintain this event annually and for it to increase in size and attendance. Future plans are to attract more people from surrounding states and other countries to participate. Our goal is to enlarge the fair to become an international event and offer more renowned speakers to the event.
Marketing & Advertising:
These costs are outside of In-Kind Advertising donations and press releases. These will include advertising in the regional health magazine "The Aspectarian" as well as local print in the Go Section of the Register Star and local television and radio spots. We also plan to trade out television and radio advertising as a sponsorship. Public service announcements will be sent out to local radio and TV stations. A print sponsorship has been secured. Fliers, mailers and posters will be used for the event. Most printing will be by REI members but hard costs will be incurred for paper and ink. Banners and posters will be made. Fliers will be distributed to customers at Nutrition Works stores as well as distributed to other health-conscious outlets in the area.

On-site fees:
There are not site rental fees for this event. All proceeds will be funneled into advertising and marketing. The conference room to be used is down the hall from the main convention space. Any other on-site fees will go toward refreshments and custodial and electric fees. A deposit has been placed to cover those fees. The Clock Tower Resort contract is available for your review as is our insurance policy.

Funding:
Some of the funds have been received from donations collected by REI and others will come over the next six months from booth fees. REI also raises money at health fairs and through energy healing demonstrations.

What Is Reiki:
Reiki is the Tibetan form of hands-on energy healing that is used clinically around the world to accelerate the body's healing process. This use of energy healing is gaining acceptance in the CAM (Complementary and Alternative Medicine) field.
About Reiki:
• Many hospitals, including SwedishAmerican Hospital in Rockford, offer Reiki treatments for both inpatient and outpatient use. Reiki is now considered part of the standard of care to their patients. It is distributed through their Holistic Services Department.
• Many other medical facilities reimburse their hospice and RNs for taking Reiki.
• Reiki was used as part of an in-depth study of alternative therapies at Stanford University Medical Center in the 1970s.
• Reiki is practiced along with modern medicine at Seton Medical Center, Sloan Kettering Cancer Centers and Kaiser Permanente.
• Reiki is more widely accepted in Eastern medicine than it is in the West, even though more Westerners know about Reiki.
• There are seven clinical trials funded by the National Institute of Health that have exclusively studied Reiki in the past four years, some completed, others ongoing.
• The United States Army is currently studying Reiki and its effects on brain injuries suffered by soldiers in the Iraq War.

Reported Benefits of Reiki:
• Provides positive energy to manage stress, tension & fatigue.
• Provides supports during times of crises, depression, illness & bereavement.
• Stimulates the natural healing of acute & chronic ailments.
• Speeds recovery after surgery or a traumatic injury.
• Releases blocked energies and initiates cleansing toxins.
• Supports conventional medicine & minimizes the side-effects of drugs.
• Replenishes and supports caregivers.
• Promotes self-healing, personal growth and self-confidence.

I am enjoying this discussion as well. We were talking about bringing Reiki into the mainsteam and I certainly do not mean to insinuate that crystals or any other tools are not of value in the healing process. However, I studied Usui Reiki and he did not use any tools other than his hands, and the people he attuned only used their hands as well. I used to use crystals in my practice but it never really felt right to me. I also studied under a Shaman and he used crystals, wands, feathers, medicine wheels, drums etc. He is a powerful healer but again it did not speak to me. I am most comfortable when I use my hands directly on the body. That is the way I was taught and that works best for me. I tend to attract the type of client that is most comfortable with the methods I use. If I feel I can't help them, I refer them to others. I have referred several clients to the Shaman and others as well. There is plenty to go around, and I also have had others refer people to me so it all balances out in the end!

Hopefully people will start to become more receptive to many kinds of alternative therapies, Reiki as well as many others. We will all benefit from people who have open minds and hearts.

I would not push my beliefs or treatments on anyone. I merely wanted to state that all energy tools are available for us to use and we should find out what the client's needs are. Some need touch, some do not. Some need more spiritual healing than physical and some come from different backgrounds and need to feel comfortable with you as a therapist or practitioner.

If a client asks for crystal healing or tuning fork therapy they will be open to other concepts. If they feel that they can't talk about the different energy healing modalities then you have closed a door on many clients that might need your services.

I wear many hats. I can offer spiritual healing, Reiki crystal and Chakra healing. If that doesn't meet their needs, then I try to offer what they do need or find someone who can. All with the intent to heal.

I have a Reiki circle group that is open to any energy healing work on all levels of spiritual growth and the different methods shared each time we meet. It is very enlightening.

I belong to another Reiki circle group that has a diverse membership. Native American, Puerto Rican, Mexican, American, European, African American and we all enjoy learning from each other. Different cultures have different needs but we are all one. Religious backgrounds are just as diverse. It is wonderful how well we work with each other using energy and cultural healing tools.

I have learned so much from them. It has opened a world of possibilities.

Great discussion!

I fully agree with you Nancy. Tools are tools, regardless of who uses them & for what purposes they are used. Where the problem lies is that clients come from many different backgrounds & belief systems as do the practitioners they choose to see. Therefore what one will see as "woo woo" or Voodoo, will be based on where they are coming from.

I think we practitioners owe it to potential clients to present ourselves & what we do in as upfront a manner as possible, while maintaining a professional demeanor. Some people will never go outside of their comfort zone to seek out anyone other than their family doctor, even if the person who could help them is a well trained nutritionist, herbalist, medical intuitive, massage therapist, etc. Their ingrained behaviors, & or limited belief systems, may stem from concepts they learned from their family of origin, or from the church, etc.

Personally I decided awhile ago, that I have to present myself as who I am and what I can offer people as both a massage therapist, & Jin Shin Jyutsu practitioner. While I'm also trained in Reiki, and many other modalities, and use some sound healing techniques, incorporating singing bowls, I do not present myself as so far "outside the box" in my approach as to turn off potential clients. I talk with my clients to understand more about their personal comfort level, and do my best to not push them to far beyond that level (especially during an initial phone conversation or first time session). At the same time if I can provide them with information that will crack open the door to a different way of understanding an issue they're experiencing, then I will do it,
but only with those clients I feel are likely to be receptive to it.

I think it is most important to note that the acceptance of the concept of Alternative healing or Reiki itself rests within the set of cultural expectations and values of the patient.

If the patient believes in more conventional methods of healing then a clinical setting would be more comfortable. If the prospective patient/client has cultural beliefs such as Native Americans, for instance, then it would be an asset to your Reiki healing business to offer the treatments that the patient is comfortable with.

To be open to a variety of cultural differences and implement the use of "tools" available that has been created by God, or depending on your belief of who creator is, gives healers an opportunity to offer comfort in ways that conventional medicine cannot.

Some Reiki Masters are also Shamans and use Shaman tools to aid in their healing work such as crystal wands or healing wands. The energy tool is merely an extension of your hands but concentrates the energy (intent) to the area the patient needs healing.

Some Reiki practitioners also use Ayerveda and Chinese Medicine to treat their patients which may also use the Chakra system to open, clear and balance the Chakras. Crystals used in this way provide the pathway to the energy centers which are like road signs.

This is not woo woo or Voo Doo. It is an amazing energy tool that enhances Reiki treatments.

I believe that whatever the patient needs are, it is my obligation to use whatever tools are available to me with the intent to heal.

Energy knows no real boundaries. It flows in and around and through all of us and all of creation.

Blessings
