Does massage therapy reduce cortisol?

Back in May 2010, one of the presentations I gave at the Highlighting Massage Therapy in Complementary and Integrative Medicine Conference in Seattle gave an overview of my research group's work to definitively measure the effect of massage therapy on cortisol (the stress hormone produced by the cortex of the adrenal glands).  There were a couple of persons at the conference who wished to attend a simultaneous session and who asked if I could later make my slides available to them, so I…

Affective Massage Therapy

A little while ago I wrote an editorial in the International Journal of Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork in which I coined the term "Affective Massage Therapy." The editorial, as well as all IJTMB content, is freely available online; see either:

Hi Christopher,

Nice to meet you too.  I used your meta-analysis of massage therapy paper in a research methodology paper that I used to teach in New Zealand.

I was at the Massage in CIM conference last year and saw you there but didn't get a chance to introduce myself. I did met Ravensara and Bodhi at that event which was nice, and I'm working with Bodhi on the scientific committee for the 3rd Fascia Research Congress next year.

So, will you take up that invitation to visit the World Massage Festival? ;-)

Mike Hinkle never did answer Susan Chapelle's question of whether there was going to be a ferris wheel at the festival!

Hi Chris, although on occasion we have not seen eye to eye, I just wanted to let you know that overall, researching the research has become a regular feature on my "to do" list.
Here in the UK research relating to massage is not highlighted enough so have begun threads that are getting good veiwing and comments.

I still practice my woo woo when I feel it appropiate :)

Added you as a friend. I do not see you or any one else here as the enemy. Mike is my personal friend but I do not agree with how he handles himself sometimes.
