Yes, Las Vegas is a dry heat. Another perk of this is that there's no bugs! Sure, you'll have some mosquitos here and there, and there are some ants that try to gain access to your home, but nothing like back east! (My mother is from Wisconsin, so I'm well aware of the cold, humid summers and bugs. ;))
You mention escaping retail, and that's what I did several years ago! I did massage on the side for several years, yet couldn't drag myself away from the hustle and bustle. I was 'addicted' to the stress and everything that went with our business. One day I finally just resigned and moved into massage full time.
Now of course I question myself as to why I didn't do this sooner, but, hindsight is always 20/20 ;)
Las Vegas is great, especially the weather! Yea, we have three months of intense head, but that leaves us nine months of great weather!
As to the city, it's, uh, interesting ;) First off, the economy here is still bad, especially for therapists. I run my own business and it's fine, but many therapists who work for others have had their hours cut back, pay cut and many have been laid off. I'm not saying people can't succeed, it's just that there are many factors involved.
On a more personal note, Las Vegas is tough on people who lack self control or have an addictive personality. Hey, it's a party town! Obviously I don't know your own behaviors, but from my 23 years of living here I've seen many, many people come and go. It doesn't seem to matter their occupation; they get hooked on drinking or gambling and since most establishments are open 24/7, many stay out too late and it effects their personal life and their work life. Hey, 'cutting a rug' from time to time is great! Yet what I've seen is that indulgence becomes a habit and they burn out.
Other than that, life is great! <chuckles> Hope I didn't come across as a 'downer,' it's just reality in this interesting city ;)
