African Americans are coming to Touch!

It's interesting to me to see the many changes that is occuring in our industry; one of them the most being the number of African Americans that are in the industry or attending school for massage. When I first attended school back in 1998, there was only one other sista n the program. Once I attended my school I graduated from, the class was predominating African American. That made me feel real good about things.

We don't get too much exposure to massage in…

So My Degree Means Nothing???

Let me first say, that if I mumble and ramble in this blog, excuse me. I am pretty upset about this and would like some feed back.

Now I work for a company where everything was all rosy in the beginning; offering better opportunities than the competition, which seemed to plan out at first. But as time has passed by, and this location has not been open for a year yet, the cons are beginning to show up. Anyone every working at companies like this always run into a problem with the front desk… Continue

Hi JB - Thanks for the compliment on the website. Actually I did it in about an hour with the new templates that ABMP rolled out. Worth the price of the membership and THENSOME!!! Check it out! Let me know if you need any help navigating it... victoriabrown@massagetherapy.com

JB - you said you're looking to move to FL. I am a FL LMT, only got my license in July and started working at a national chain on Aug 3rd. I am putting in this first year for the experience and the opportunity to work on a lot of clients. My location is fairly busy, although there is a "season" here and it will supposedly be getting much busier in the next month or so. I don't think there's any problem finding a job; it's an issue of the pay, which in my opinion is very low. On the plus side, everything is provided for you, including the clients, so I'm sure that's part of why the compensation is so low. As for African Americans, in my graduating class of 6 people, one was African American and she also works where I work. In the next class of 6, two are African American (again both women). They have 27 therapists (or so) on staff where I work, of which only two are African American. I've never heard of any problems with the therapists I know regarding race, but that doesn't mean it's not out there. Anyway, over all, I think you could get a job(s) here but the economy in general is very bad in this region (SW FL). I wish you luck in your search for a better situation.

I started having them in my home until they grew too big. They are so much fun!! Plus, I can see who is in the industry when it's time for me to hire.
