The folks at a local alternative magazine asked a scientist to observe as they had their "aura photos" taken. The scientist said that the special board was actually a liquid crystal board. The same thing can be found at some science museums -- when you place your hand on the board, your body heat leaves different colors. Dark blue is the area of greatest heat, then there's green, and yellow...Mood rings also work on this principle.
Anyhow, the colors on the board are superimposed, either digitally or by double-exposure, on the underlit photo of the subject, and voila! An "aura."
They found they could predict the colors that would show up in their pictures -- if they heated up their hands by rubbing them together vigorously, they would get a lot of the deep blue color, and a person with very cold hands ended up with a greener glow.
All of them had the same basic color scheme -- no pinks or silvers or violets. The colors were the same ones found on liquid crystal boards with no variation. Of course, they were all unique, as everyone's body temperature varies.
I just wondered if anyone ever heard of this, and if anyone else had heard of a scientific explanation of this as fraud. It sounds darn convincing as a hoax to me.
I like to keep an open mind, but not a gullible mind. There may be a way to see auras, but it sounds like it sure isn't this way.
