I'm unsure which article of mine you were reading, but at least in my mind, as I'm so 'business oriented,' I was probably talking about massage marketing.
As you know, people buy with their wants. Now of course once we get them on the table we have to address both their wants AND needs as you mentioned. We must be the 'solution provider,' or at least point out what they want and need.
