Primal Pictures
Does anyone use or have used this software? I think it should be implemented in the classroom at some point during the students time while in school. I think it gives them a very good visual on the subject matter

Along with the 4th edition Trail Guide to the Body, students will have access to a section on our website (e-XPLORE) to view the muscular system overview from Primal. It presents 7 layers of anatomy, full rotations and labels. If you are an instructor that uses Trail Guide, give us a call next week and we will give you access.

The 3D imaging is fantastic! myself and a friend bought the full muscles set 5 years ago.
Now having checked their site its good to see Tom Myers antomy trains on offer and this is only the set I would get now because it includes the fascia. .
The only downside is its cost. You would have hoped someone in primal pictures would have realized that making it more affordable to the masses would make the company lots more money! They are so expensive they will attract alot of attention from pirate copying.

stephen, that is a great point. I bought one of the cheaper programs because I couldnt afford the one I really wanted. I am an instructor at a massage school and I have been talking about it for atleast a year and a half now. We got a new budget and the it still didnt make into the classrooms.

Yes Frank ~ i use several of the primal pictures computer-based products, including the Anatomy Trains implementation. I use them when teaching anatomy & physiology, kinesiology (muscles & movement), deep tissue (myofascial therapy) and pathology (assessment & treatment) in massage school regular curriculum, and in special workshops (e.g., anatomy & pathology for Hatha Yoga, anatomy & movement for Pilates).
I think it is important to show students vibrant images of all the anatomical structures -- I use the Theime Anatomy Atlas digital library) for most of my still images -- and then to use the dynamic computer models from Primal and be able to go through layers of tissue, rotating the model, refering to attachments and actions, nerves and arteries, along with the animations. Together the students enjoy an exciting, rich visual experience. -

Hi Frank, they do offer a subsciption version that is cheaper, but how practical that would be to you as an instructor I don't know? What I do know is every practitioner in the world would/should have this kit if only it was correctly priced !!!!!

I do use it to demonstrate muscle movement interaction. I really think the dissection series by S Gil Hedley Integral Anatomy Somanautics human cadaver anatomy dissection videos on DVD, is fantastic.

The massage school I attended incorporated this software into the curriculum over 5 years ago, and it is a tremendous help. Projected on a screen during technique training, it was much easier to visualize the structures within our partners' bodies. However, we also spent a lot of time in cadaver lab, so the Primal Pictures software was anticlimactic by comparison.
The Anatomy Trains software is nice, but unless you practice/teach AT material, much of it may be irrelevant to basic A&P instruction.
Gil Hedley's videos make dissection look like art, and his commentary and illustrations of related concepts throughout the presentation are great food for thought. For those unable to have cadaver lab as part of their A&P training, Gil's videos should be required viewing. -
