I know, I'm nosey. I was a travel writer.

For six years, I got to travel to Bed & Breakfasts and get massages, all for free, and write about it. So my roots are in traveling, meeting people and hearing their stories. Now I travel around and do The World Massage Festival & Massage Therapy Hall of Fame.

I found the adjustment to a single location massage establishment, inside a strip mall, very confining. So I started a way to stay "in the massage world and travel!" But that is another story!

What's your story? What did you do before massage? Tell us of your travels and what massage is like where you are, especially if you massage outside the U.S. We really like pictures, if possible.

If you get bored come see me at my page http://www.massageprofessionals.com/profile/MikeHinkle

Thanks and welcome to Massage Professionals!

I was a business administrator for a neurologist! ran the show. Surprising? lol
I was a journalist working in newspapers and magazines. Then I got into book publishing before massage came along and now I've swung back to journalism and books again. Never had much of a plan after university. I've just stumbled and fell into things, mostly happily (except for brief periods of soul-crushing depression, of course.)
Hi, Robert! Ah, another journalist. Glad to have you here. I hope you'll join the WMF Group and help bridge the Can-AM growth in the profession. Could you give me the names of some of your key instructors in that area of Canada? Thanks!

I worked as a Certified Nursing Assistant from the time I was 17 until 2000 in a nursing facility. I worked my way through college in that capacity but stayed with the elderly as I just enjoyed them so much. Their stories and life experiences are wonderful. To this day they have a special place in my heart. My experince in the medical field has helped me with the transition into Massage Therapy.
I got my first job in a restaurant at the age of 13, washing dishes after school and on weekends. I bought my first restaurant when I was 19 and stupid--and it was a learning experience. During the next 20+ years I owned three more that all made me a good living. I looked at my husband one day and told him I figured I had cooked 875,000 meals, and I was done. Within two weeks I sold the last place and was hired to be a massage school administrator---the owner of the school used to eat in my place and I asked her for a job--and the second day I was there I decided to attend massage school. The rest is history!
My first carer was as a dancer and I taught for Arthur Murray's for around five years, Then for about 10 years I was a Chef in SLC and Denver. Mostly making sushi but a few places I worked on the line and for catering companies. I even tried working in the oil fields for a while but I did not have the disposition for the it. And I have all my teeth. lol. Now I am doing my part to try and make the world a better place through massage therapy and fitness training.
I currently work full time as a Victim's Advocate. I schedule my Massage Therapy on a part time basis. Before that, I was a Make-up Artist and Esthetician for Major cosmetic companies. Time marches on. I find it interesting to read about the different careers before massage.

Namaste, Agnes
I was a stay at home Mom, then became a preschool teacher. Massage Therapy provided healing on so many levels after my second spine surgery that i become hopeful that i could do the same for others. Hence, I am now a Massage Therapst!
My career progression is waitress, exercise instructor, bank teller, account manager, customer service rep, trainer, personal trainer, finally ending up as a Human Resources Manager in the corporate-world for the last 20 years. Loved my job, but it was time to move on and fulfill this dream. Here I am world!

Namaste,
Toi
I am currently working full time for the U.S. Postal Service, and massage is my part time gig right now ( hopefully it will change to full time soon). Before that I was a Physical Ed. teacher.
I was a dental assistant for 28 years before going back to school to learn massage therapy 2 years ago.. It is fun to starting over at this point in my life.Keeps things exciting. I am working at building my massage business, its been one year this September since I opened my doors.
Can relate to the traveling, I was a carney for 12 years, then my disease got the better of me, took a few years off to battle that. In rehab I knew someone going to Heartwood, I spent a year there going to massage school, it was time to grow up and get an almost real job. Still have never filled out a w2 but I'm much better off being self employed.
