What Did You Do Before Massage?
I know, I'm nosey. I was a travel writer.
For six years, I got to travel to Bed & Breakfasts and get massages, all for free, and write about it. So my roots are in traveling, meeting people and hearing their stories. Now I travel around and do The World Massage Festival & Massage Therapy Hall of Fame.
I found the adjustment to a single location massage establishment, inside a strip mall, very confining. So I started a way to stay "in the massage world and travel!" But that is another story!
What's your story? What did you do before massage? Tell us of your travels and what massage is like where you are, especially if you massage outside the U.S. We really like pictures, if possible.

What did you think about the recent case, in Maryland, where they stopped the girl fom doing equine massage?
Kathy Starr said:I originaly went to school for equine/farrier science as well as Horse Farm management. I worked as a Farrier (horse shoer/trimmer) a Horse trainer, a show groom a Riding instructor and a Stable manager. I also got my CNA in 91 which I did off and on for 18 years. I graduated from Massage school in 06 and have had a private practice, which I love, since, I also have a part time job as a CNA to get excellent health insurance.and teach an occasional riding lesson for fun

My first job was in a sewing factory and the list goes on...pharmacist assistant, shoe salesperson, waitress, UPS clerk, Delta Dream Vacations Pricing Analyst, hotel party planner/catering, MIS/data security assistant, biometrics, proposals coordinator, desktop publisher, graphic artist, web administrator.............MOM...........Now, a massage therapist!

I did photography for my college's PR office way back in the day. You know, film. I used to spend hours in the middle of the night developing black and white photos and experimenting. I have to say that I love digital, though. Cropping is much easier on the computer!
My Theatre and Film degree (minor, Business Admin) enabled me to do the standard job for one in such a field: retail and restaurant management. "Temporary" jobs that lasted years. Free food at least!

Digital is easier, for sure! I really do like the clarity of B&W pics though. And they make you appreciate the photographer's abilities and work, not just the object the photo is of.

I worked as a Pipefitter in Cleveland, Ohio. Became interested in muscles and how they affected the body while living in Tucson Arizona. Moved back to Cleveland continued working as a pipefitter and went to massage school. In 1986 started a part time practice and went full time with my practice in June of 1988. Before finding my path in learning and doing healing works I was a photographer :)
May I ask you why you need a lot of professionals and amateurs?
(Btw I am also a historian, an ethnologist and a world traveler!)
