massage and bodywork professionals
a community of practitioners
I know, I'm nosey. I was a travel writer.
For six years, I got to travel to Bed & Breakfasts and get massages, all for free, and write about it. So my roots are in traveling, meeting people and hearing their stories. Now I travel around and do The World Massage Festival & Massage Therapy Hall of Fame.
I found the adjustment to a single location massage establishment, inside a strip mall, very confining. So I started a way to stay "in the massage world and travel!" But that is another story!
What's your story? What did you do before massage? Tell us of your travels and what massage is like where you are, especially if you massage outside the U.S. We really like pictures, if possible.
If you get bored come see me at my page http://www.massageprofessionals.com/profile/MikeHinkle
Thanks and welcome to Massage Professionals!

Accounting and then a stay-at-home mom.
Accounting and then a stay-at-home mom.
This is my first career. I worked at various places including starbucks, housecleaning, child care and others, and most at the same. Thank god I found this awesome thing called massage, dunno what I'd be doing if I hadn't!
For years I drove a school bus so I could be free to spend time with my children. It was not very well paid but I did have summers off. Once my kids were older I went back to school to study art. I used the training in the lending industry as a marketing assistant setting up advertising layouts. It was not that exciting, and thought I would try something new. I landed a great position for a well known yellow pages company and designed ads and sold advertising. After several years I started dealing with the headings that included many of the alternative therapies. I was excited every time I spoke to another business offering a form of bodywork and eventually took classes to learn Reiki. I went to Italy for a vacation where it hit me that I should be doing some form of hands on healing. Once I made the decision to change careers I spent a few months doing some soul searching and healing, enrolled in massage school and jumped in with a passion and haven't looked back.
Before massage, I was a graphic artist for 27 years. These days, I'm doing more and more graphics work, especially for other therapists. It kind of feels good to return to those roots, which I've been away from for almost 10 years. I've been doing logo designs, Facebook landing pages, websites and brochures.
It's good to have a creative outlet and make money at it, too!

Life before becoming a massage therapist? What!? I feel like I came from the womb massaging! Since I have been a therapist for half my life now, prior to that I worked for a check printing company as the "morale officer"!
Thank you for reminding me to register for my booth at the World Massage Festival.
I would love to know more about your travel writing! That would be a whole other life chapter for those of us with Wanderlust!
I was a dental/surgical assistant for 7+ years, administrative asst for an anesthesiologist for 2 years, then decided to go to nursing school. Looooong story short, here I am now and loving what I do!
Hi Heide,
Now you can join our "morale team!" We are flying! Festival is the best convention in the country!
Travelling and writing was another world. I'll share some stories with you at Festival.
I look forward to meeting you in person. You may think me gruff at times. I am just very protective of massage and ALL modalities. There is a place at the Massage Table for massage therapy and every modality recognized as massage!

Hi Mike!
Consider me part of the team!! I became a Life Coach years ago to help motivate apeople but I prefer to call it Empowerment Coaching, since I don't claim to know what is best for someone else's life!
I am looking so forward to the convention, especially the venue! But I do love being in a booth and meeting new people!I It is such and adrenaline rush for me. Plus, I love a good road trip and it will be a nice 11 hour drive from here. I believe my buddy Joel Osteen is in Raleigh that same weekend. Maybe I can do both!
Look forward to meeting you and be forwarned - I'm a hugger!
