How do you mean "Aroma" Therapy? Aromatherapy is so often misunderstood. It is not referring to fragrance but rather the aromatic oil of the plant as opposed to herbivorous parts of the plant used in herbal medicine. Like herbal medicine, Aromatherapy is used to heal many conditions. It is important to learn your oils as they have contraindications. Some may cause dermatitis or make skin photosensitive (avoid these if your client will be spending the rest of the day in the sun) others may cause seizures or even be highly toxic.
For simply scenting oils it may be better to use fragrance oils.

Have you ever ran across a muscle that will not release? Often times it has an emotion attached to the stress or injury. If you apply the proper essential oil it will release that emotion thus releasing the muscle. I had a gal who fell due to ice she fell directly on her shoulder. At the time of the fall she was furious about something else that was happening. We worked all the neck and shoulder muscles and still couldn't get to the root of the issue. Once she explained that she was so angry when she fell I knew that the right arm around the deltoid area is the muscle that hold anger so I muscle tested to see which oil would release the anger and applied ginger to the area and the muscle gave the release we had been looking for.

yes, ginger can be a great relaxant and helps with aching muscles along with emotional release. Unlike clove bud, which is heat ginger is cooling. In Xiao Er Tuina ginger water is used instead of oil to encourage energy circulation and calm. It is all good.

Thanks everyone for the great conversation. I have been using my own oils this week trying to get over a very painful kidney stone. This is a great conversation.
To Dan's question I was referring to specific scents triggering an emotional connection. I would really only want to use essential oils for a few different reasons. I am always looking at there healing properties myself. I have several books on the subject and I am researching school to become an Aromatherapist.

Jennifer I highly recommend this college for aromatherapy http://www.achs.edu/. It offers what I believe is the most extensive program in the USA. The course is difficult but worth it.
