Tools can be used well. Things like hot stone and bamboo massage have there application. Having variety at a spa will encourage clients to come back more. But I like using my hands. However, when you approach tools in a martial arts way they can be used as well as hands. They become an extension of your hands through which you reach out and feel the body. At this point I think there is great value in using bamboo, marble balls or jade rollers, as well as, other tools.

The variety of massages makes this a profession of life time learning and self growth. ENJOY!

I started using bamboo over a year ago.  My hands hurt a LOT and this was one thing that saved me (I also started using Val Guin's Forearm Dance).  My clients absolutely love the bamboo!  I have a moist heat pad that I use to heat them, and clean up is easy - just a Wet Ones "Big One".  The bamboo helps relax the tissues and the client which means I can do deeper work with less effort.  I also use it as a break from more intense work which is great for me and my clients.

It is possible to feel the tissue through the sticks, especially with practice.  A lot of times people will accept the use of the sticks on areas that are tender and then I can use my hands for finer work.

Overall it's been an extremely worthwhile addition to my practice.

Therese I think you bring up a very good point. "A lot of times people will accept the use of the sticks on areas that are tender and then I can use my hands for finer work." Sensitivity sometimes prevents some work by hand. Indirect application generally can be accepted much easier. This can be done with the clients own hand, arm, or leg under your hand used to press into the body, arms or legs. They easily accept pressure from themselves. Objects such as the bamboo do the same, providing a "safe barrier".
Awesome comments! Thanks a lot! Keep them coming everyone!
I started using Bamboo over a year ago after I took a Bamboo Fusion course. Most of my clients really love this massage and it has helped me out by giving my thumbs a rest.  It requires less effort and is deeper than Swedish so many clients who prefer regular deep-tissue massage like to have it on occasion.  You can definitely feel the tissue through the bamboo/rattan sticks and most people enjoy the warmth and the soothing sensation of the wood. It has been my 2nd most requested massage after deep-tissue.
I learned Tian Di Bamboo massage a little over a year ago.  While I never do a full body massage with just the bamboo, I incorporate the cho sticks into every massage I do.  It gives my hands a break but I can still provide the client with a deep tissue technique that is effective.  My clients love the different sensations they experience between my hands and the sticks and particularly enjoy the tapoment!
Sure....don't Asian Grasses deserve body work too? May as well massage some pandas while your at it!

It is really interesting to take a bamboo massage therapy at your home..
