A couple of years ago I worked on a horse that had just flown in to CA from Ireland. By the time he had got to the horse show he was very scared and disorientated and really latched himself on the the trainer's son. After a couple of weeks the son had to go back to school and when the horse realized that he was gone, he shut down. He quit eating and drinking and turned his head into the back corner of the stall and wouldn't respond to anybody. After two days of this, I went in to see if I could help. When I put my hands on him, I realized that he had left his body. I started doing the body work to bring him back and get him grounded in his body again. When I tuned into his heart, it was so broken. There was so much pain that it made me cry. At that point I pulled out my rose quartz crystal and started working in his energy field with it, while at the same time I started radiating energy from my heart into his. I put the crystal and my hand over his heart and really concentrated on filling him up with love. By the time I was finished with the session, he was making motions like he was back. The next morning I got a call from the trainer saying that when she got to the barn that morning he had his head out of his stall waiting for his breakfast. They put him back in the show that day and he did amazing. All these creatures want is love from us. Pure, unconditional love..

Lovely story, Patty. Good for you for recognizing what he really needed and responding. Indeed, and we all benefit from both the giving and receiving. There's not a one of us who isn't changed for the better by putting our hearts into the work we do. Something life affirming happens when we recognize who the other being is when we have our hands on them. The physical work becomes more profoundly helpful. I find that each time we connect with the horse this way, we also become more of who we are meant to be, too.

Hi Patty...
Abundant gratitude for sharing the heart healing experience with the horse from Ireland. My sense is that your powerful intent to heal with love allowed the horse to not only re-enter his body, to connect with your loving energy and the energy of the crystal, but LOVE that is EVER PRESENT ALL-THAT-IS LOVE and reconnect with all that supports his being. So, yes, that is all that they want from us, but we must remember always that the "us" is much larger than our personal "us". When we heal with LOVE, we are a conduit for something much larger, otherwise we heal only from our own pain. This healing and its powerful shift that occurred is testament to that universal love and how powerful it is when we source from the non-personal. Kudos for the amazing work!!!

A few years back, I cared for some aged Morgan horses every morning. There was one in particular named "Larry" who I had watched perform as a magnificent equitation mount while he was in his prime. He became quite lame in his later years and was retired to my friend's barn, where I had the honor and pleasure of befriending him.

One morning he refused his feed and would only munch a little hay, so he was turned outside where he exhibited signs of very mild colic..lying down, standing up, lying down, standing up...the usual symptoms, and fairly severe discomfort that required veterinary attention. This went on for several days and the owner considered having him put down. At that time, while my background as a veterinary technician gave me the knowledge of his signs & symptoms, I had also recently received my Reiki II attunements and it was pretty much all I thought to do by myself. So, with Larry's permission and guidance, I spent time with him in that little pasture where he was lying down, and just passed reiki to his gut and his heart. (His owner would have thought I was a nut case.) Within twelve hours, he was eating and moving freely, and lived an active retirement for three more years. The most wonderful affirmation for me was, after that one session, he "talked" to me and followed me everywhere when I came over! The strength of that bond and the power of that lesson just exemplifies the word awesome.

Marilyn, how beautiful a story! We've seen over and over that when we actually take the time and make the commitment to helping a horse in need, that the horse responds in a different manner, much like you describe. They 'hear' us and want us to 'hear' them, acknowledge that we all have 'spoken' in our own shared language.

I love the name of a book written by Machaelle Small Wright called "Behaving as if the God in all Life Mattered." I keep this in mind as I walk the human path. :-)
