Hi everybody! I was wondering if anybody would like to share some info and tips on free or low cost marketing and advertising. I do things like post flyers and give free demo's. Anyone with ideas or suggestions?? Thanks so much!!

I also heard that someone has to see your ad at least 10 times or something before they act, that is crazy isnt it? I am actually doing a demo this week at my local gym, Im nervous but I know it will be worthwhile, thankx : )

This doesn't seem to qualify as 'free advertising and marketing,' but a helpful tool none the less.

I have a simple excel program for break-even analysis.

I've used this program mostly when I was in the retail business, yet it works just as well if one is retailing products, looking to raise their massage rates or lower them, etc., etc.

Here's an example: Let's say you currently charge $80.00 per massage and are looking to raise your rates to $90.00 and are worried about if you'll lose business, or, how much business you can lose and still make the same amount of money? Let's say your cost of the massage is $20.00. Let's also say you are performing 30 massages per week.

Per this quick and easy program, you can lose 14.29%, or 4.29 massages and still make the same amount of money. (I'm wondering who got that .29% of a massage?? Hehehe...) This works the opposite way as well; let's say you have a new competitor in town who is charging well below your rates. If you decide to drop your price and match him, (which I'd never recommend,) this program tells you how many MORE massage you need to do to keep your same $'s. This really is eye-opening: Let's again say you are charging $80.00 and decide to drop your rates to $60.00 for whatever reason. With all the stats above remaining the same, you'd need to do 50% or 15 more massages just to make the same amount of money! Once again though, each situation is different, and these are just numbers, not demographics or clients or a million other factors that may impact your business.

Obviously there are many other factors at play here, but it's a quick little tool that has assisted me many times, if for anything else just a quick 'numbers check' on my bottom line.

Contact mental health professionals, psychologists, social workers, therapists - in your area and let them know about your services. Often a personal contact is best...let them get to know you. therapists often have clients who they refer for massage and are looking for massage therapists who can be very sensitive to their clients needs.

Many women who were sexually abused for instance, have massage as part of the therapy, but need someone who can work with them in becoming comfortable with trusting and touch issues. Mental health professionals are also seeing increasing numbers of people dealing with anxiety and stress regarding economic issues and would refer these clients to you as well.

Insurance agents and attorneys can be good sources of referrals as well.
