Hello everyone,
I am at a stage where I want to expand my career, and want to go into rehab. But, how to do that I am not sure, I was thinking at PT, but that is a degree plus 3 yr, or a PT's aide, or even nursing, Is there anyone out there who is in rehab and advise, I would appreciate it.

Thank you Masajista!!
Actually the Physical Therapist program is a doctoral degree. so you are looking at 7 yrs plus from the start. There are no jobs for physical therapist aide's, no such thing as on the job training. If you are thinking a career as a Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA) it's an Associates in Applied Science, 2 plus years. Which is what I am and it has served me well for many years. Your best bet may be to do some volunteer hours. You will need the hours as part of the pre-reqs for the PT & PT Assistant program. (don't know about nursing). PT/PTA's work in many different settings. Hospitals, nursing homes, out-pt rehab, home care. A few diagnosis include orthopedics, geriatric, neurology (CVA, TBI). pediatric is usually PT's only because of the on going assessments each visit. I'm scheduled to see 15-16 pts a day, 1+ every 30 mins, sessions last approx 55 mins. Treatment focus is returning the pt to their best possible functional ability. It's a great job, crazy at times but fun.
Hello Catherine,
Thanks for your informative reply. Since putting this up as a Discussion point i have done some more homework and have found all the points you have mentioned. I start my PT's Asst's degree in the winter semester at Baker college, as that is the nearest to me. I have not found many colleges that do this course, I am excited and looking forward to doing my Associates.
hi Catherine- I'm glad someone finally was able to answer Ash's question. guessing there's not many people on this site anymore??? tell me, what is a day in the life of a PTA like? or for that matter, are all PTA's trained to do the same things? what kinds of tasks do you do in the course of a day? I'm assuming it's not all massage related...

Hi Ash
Congrats on being excepted into the program. How many colleges offer the program may depend on where you live. My class had 500 applicants and only 32 seats available. Doesn't matter much anyway. You have been accepted & that is quite an accomplishment. Welcome to the small world of PTA's.
Thank you Catherine, I am so looking forward to it!! Hopefully we can share information. Happy New Year!!

we have a couple volunteers with a PT/LMT combo. both titles/credentials require separate schooling/examinations. there are courses you can take in the rehab specialization, but this does not make you a PT. only going through the entire schooling / credentialing process will get you the title.
