Massage therapy for cancer patients

How safe is it to give massage to a cancer patient? I have never had a cancer patient as my client before and recently a client asked if I could help get a massage for her friend who is a cancer patient. I am not sure what precautions I should take?

ABMP has a small 2 credit free course if your a member on it's website. The big things to remember are blood counts. Low blood counts could create bruising problems. The basic ideas are to have a slow and light touch. Also stay away from anything with heat in or on it. Obviously stay away from any active cancer in implant sites.

These rules apply for anyone in cancer treatment, and to any survivor regardless of how long ago the cancer was. their bodies are sometimes never the same. There is no way to find out until a day or two after the massage if you messed up or not.

Obviously this is just a quick answer. If you really want to work with cancer patients, it's time to take some serious classes on it.
