What makes a book or article useful to you?

...or rather...

Why is your favorite textbook your favorite book?

Is it the images, writing style, pedagogy, or review activities?

Avoid listing titles, but what are their traits?

Hi Susan - Had to look up pedagogy again - In case there is anyone "out there" like me, who never knew or didn't recall, here's the definition: Pedagogy (pronounced /ˈpedəɡɒdʒi,
ˈpedəɡɑːdʒi, or ˈpedəɡoʊdʒi/[1][2]) is the study of being a teacher. The term generally refers to strategies of instruction, or a style of instruction.[3]

So, for me, after reading my definition, I like a textbook because of its pedagogy. There really has to be a good fit between me and the author before I can "listen" or hear, absorb what is being said. It is a tough think for an author and basically demonstrates my belief that we just have to be authentic, through and through before we can hope to gain the ear of the public or anyone with our writing style, etc. Who and what you are, what you believe, all of it shines through in all that you do...there is no use trying to hide it, good or bad it will ooze out.

I love to write. I have no idea if anyone thinks I am good or not, and I really don't care because my writing has never been for anyone else but me until lately. Recently I've had a desire to "put it down" on paper or hard drive :) ---but, put it out there, not so much for anyone to see, but to validate my experience, my thoughts, feelings, all of what is most important about me and makes up who I am. I feel that I have so much to say. I do have some wisdom that is worth sharing, and so, in one form or another, one day I will share. I guess I am doing it right now. And, I am having fun. :)

Wow - I had no idea all of that was "waiting to come out" but, there it is, for better or worse and, thanks Susan, for being the catalyst!
What makes a book excellent to me is one that is written in a clear and concise manner and makes what might seem to be difficult concepts clear and simple. And one that does this by showing how to figure something out instead of memorize the content.

Well said. I would add to this, that it helps greatly if a text is organized in a way that makes sense to me and that is easy to follow. It's frustrating when I have to search all through a text to look for the bit of information I need. It also helps if there are appropriate and clear illustrations (I know I sound like a kid wanting a book with pictures). But when we are talking about Anatomy and other related health subjects, clear illustrations are important
