I want to learn Esalen massage and would like to take a seminar but need some recommendations. Also a DVD would be nice.

We are going to have a three day seminar in Esalen at the Festival, in KY this year. But if you want the best education, it would be to go to the Esalen Institute in Big Sur, CA and get it there. Robin Fann also gives classes here in NC.
Donna, where are you located? If you are on the East coast, then you need to get in touch with Robin Fann. She lives in Asheville, NC now, but she lived and worked at Esalen for about 17 years I think. She is currently conducting a series of four 8 hour workshops that are a wonderful introduction to the basics of Esalen massage. I have taken all 4, and it has really changed the quality of my work. She is planning to offer the same 100 hour certification next year that is currently only available at Big Sur, California. You can go to the Esalen website, or you can go to At Peace Media, and order the Esalen DVD. There is only one authentic DVD that has been filmed at the Esalen institute. You can locate Robin thru Facebook. She is a wonderful teacher, and a lovely person.
Hope this helps you get started - good luck!
I am located in Ohio. I sent an email to Esalen Institute to find out what training they would recommend for me. I also inquired to see if there are any approved trainers in the Ohio area. Thanks.

Relaxation massage is where a lot of my gifts lie. A lot of that may have to do with the fact that I left a career in the legal field that was super stressful and I raised 4 children pretty much on my own and I am more than a little acquainted with the effects of stress. In the two years that I have been doing massage, I have now perfected a super relaxing spa like massage but I want to enhance what I already do. I learned Lomi Lomi at some point and a huge part of what I now I am intrigued by Esalen. It is a most beautiful massage.

Has anyone actually gone through the 28 day Esalen training? I was wondering what type of accommodations you receive for the fee and how physically intensive the training is.
Hi Donna,
You can read what I wrote in response to Kelly's inquiry, and Heidi's supportive words. The Esalen DVD is beautiful, giving a view of the majesty of Big Sur and the Esalen grounds and baths, and imparts much of our philosophy and gives a good overview of our practice. You can purchase this DVD from the Esalen Bookstore, from www.movingventures.org, At Peace Media, and maybe from Robin.
From The Moving Path...right now in Bali, training Indonesians and a variety of Westerners and Asians in Esalen Massage & Essential Touch.
Come to either Esalen or Bali for a full residential immersion. Both have their own magical energy. We also offer a variety of somatic arts programs in Bali throughout the year. visit:www.movingventures.org to read about it. 2010 28 day certification is March 13-April 10...still time to get here and join!
2011, will be approximately March 7-April 5, followed by four, 6 day Advanced or Specialized Esalen trainings. A student can participate in all of these and receive 140 hours of CEU's and credit toward their 500 hr. Esalen Certification.

Magic abounds at both venues, where the natural world influences life on land, and supports the flowing nature of our practice: Esalen Massage. xoellen
