The last time I was at the airport I saw the book "In Search of Excellence" on the stand. I couldn't believe it. They had it displayed like it was a brand new book.
"That book is as old as the hills", I said to my husband. I remember reading it in the 80's. Of course, this could be an indication that I am actually getting to be as old as the hills.
Since then I've got the phrase "In Search of Excellence in ......." in my head. I have no idea why.
Lately I've been interested in reading about research in massage therapy. There are a number of reasons for this, which I won't bore you with. Basically I think it's going to catapult our profession to where it needs to be in so many ways, I'd only be writing a thesis here if I were to start writing about it.
Anyway, I felt inspired enough to set up a website:
mt-researchonline.com
The goals of the site are:
- promote interest in research
- allow people to post articles (the whole article, not just the abstract) and comment on research
- promote research literacy
- dig into the "guts" of research: methodologies, analysis etc.
- help oher therapists gain an understanding of research and hopefully help them become more confident. That sounds really corny, I know, but if it happened, it would make me smile.
It's not a community site - there are no "friend requests". It's very basic and streamlined, but I hope some of you might benefit from it.
I hope you'll pay it a wee visit from time to time and maybe give a comment or two - and the comments don't really have to be excellent.
Cheers!
