certification ; license, hours and massage school

Does anyone know the answer to this question? ....

Can we as massage therapist students, take the certification exam and/or license exam at 500 hours, even tho our total program hours at graduation are 720 hrs? At my school we do 720 hours.

I was thinking of taking the exam at my 500 hours and of course continue to get my 720 hours., but my school said NO.

Anyone experience this ???

With the National Certification exam you also have to successfully complete your program. You can apply to take the NESL which is offered by NCTMB before you graduate.

It's the exam, only for students, and when you send in your school certificate it's turned into your certification (assuming a successful outcome, that is!)

Oh Silvana! I am so sorry for your loss. At my school, we understand 'life happens' and would have certainly allowed you grievance time. Usually if a student is going to miss more than 1 week, we encourage them to take a leave-of-absence and return at the beginning of the next quarter. Although they will not graduate with their original class, the students don't feel pressured to return and have to make up for lost hours. Of course, this is their choice. Some students choose to double up on hours.
You can take the exam at 500 hours, but you will still need the required number of hours by the state you live in. We have three students recently take the test and pass, but they still need 150 hours to meet our state's minimum hour requirement.

Yes thats what I thought too, that you can take the exam at 500 hours. BUT most are saying you need to show them your certificate, from school. To show that you completed the education.... so thats where i am confused :)

You may take the MBLEx or the NESL prior to graduation (assuming that either exam is accepted by your state). Your school does not have the right to tell you that you cannot take it, but they may have said so because your state does not recognize the MBLEx or the NESL. Your school should give you a transcript showing the 500 hours so you can apply.

North Carolina does not recognize the NESL. We do accept the NCTM, NCTMB, MBLEx, and the AOBT exam. You cannot get your actual license, but what it means is that if you already have your MBLEx score and the rest of your documentation together on the day you graduate, your license is just expedited that much faster.
