I have been a massage therapist in Waco for about 3 years now and I plan to move back to Austin. I'm 21yr old and have no family in Austin. I attended A New Beginning School of Massage so I do have class-mates in Austin. So I'm looking for other massage therapists to advice me in my relocation...PLEASE
Like Deborah replied to your other post, it depends on whether you're looking for advice on where to live, where to work, or both... Where would be best to work depends on what particular techniques and skills you utilize. Their are many different settings for massage in Austin, spas, chiro/medical/holistic health care, sports, on-site for personal, business and event out-calls...
You can check Craigslist Austin under the medical/health link under jobs/employment. Lauterstein-Conway School of Massage also has a "Massage Careers" link on their home page (www.tlcschool.com) which is open to the public, not just students and graduates. Be careful, nearly anyone can post jobs, and some don't pay enough, don't have reliable hours or pay... Some are even volunteer positions (nothing wrong with donating your skills, it's just not "employment", per se... And I like to check locations (using the posting, their website, any other clues) before responding, not all jobs are in Austin.
And, if you are not already a member, there is CentralTexasMassage@yahoogroups.com, where MT's post all sorts of massage-related messages and discussions, including employment opportunities.
I have been in professional practice for almost seven years, in Austin for over four. If you want to contact me directly, I'd be happy to share my experiences and opinions. I have some pretty strict standards, and perhaps opinionated perspective, but also a pretty good feel for the terrain, I believe.
Either way, good fortune to you, thanks and praises, many blessings, love and gratitude
