Thanks for posting this important information! I do not support the use of tanning beds - for the obvious reasons you stated above. I don't think most people know this. Spread the word!

In the past few weeks, I have run into several people I went to high school with, and was shocked to see that they look about 10-15 years older than I do--because they tan and I don't. I don't know if they've done it under the sun or in a tanning bed, but I think it's a health issue either way. And they must be in denial thinking it looks good, because in reality their skin looks like leather.

I know some MTs who actually have tanning beds in their office, and plenty of salons here have them. To me the worst thing is young teenage girls getting in them oblivious to the fact that they are almost guaranteeing themselves trouble down the road. Lots of times their mothers use the tanning bed so they think it's okay for them, too. It isn't!

I think there should be warnings prominently posted on tanning beds just like they are on a pack of cigarettes. It's the same thing.

Actually they did label them a carcinogen. So you are right on. I'm surprised they can even be legal. I know it may anger some folks, but I really think it will be a medical problem in the future.

This paricular forum was MSNBC on the new medical show with Dr. Nancy. Do you have evidence to the contrary? If even half the evidence is true, I will continue to warn others and never get in one again myself. Laura was right, it seems too coincidental the leather skin and years in all those tanning beds. I would rather ere on the safe side. And if we can lower health costs,in the years to come, that would be icing.

I was always very weary about tanning beds. As a younger individual I've witnessed most of my friends get this new hobby and practice it religiously. I haven't really done any research pertaining to this. So it is really interesting to hear this new "discovery". Thanks for the info.
