Do you have a preference about the population you work with (specific needs, prenatal, seniors, etc.)? If so, why?

I prefer the medical/special needs clients. I enjoy working with someone who has a chronic condition or poorly healed/rehabbed surgery. For me these are the most challenging and rewarding cases due to the wide ranging systematic symptoms. I live for the client that tells me they had their first sound sleep in days/weeks/months after our session. The results aren't always dramatic or fast but knowing someone can better deal with their condition physically and mentally because of my help just can't be beat!

The kind of clients that think they need to see a chiropractor. Trigger points are the culprit 85% of the time. And after thirty years, I'm an expert at making them go away. Proper advanced soft tissue work is exceptionally healing( more so then is realized by anybody ). Muscles move bones. The attachment below comes from a German Osteopathic book.

Here at African Massage in Brevard NC we have a huge seasonal influx of massage and color therapy clients, mostly from Florida enjoying the cooler mountain weather. The owner, Jaci Daley, and I like the year round clients as we get to know them and their specific needs better. - Norm

I love working with the yoga crowd--mostly urbane, health conscious women in Greater Vancouver.

Thank you all for your thoughtful replies!

I prefer TO work with clients who gave some working knowledge of more subtle energy modalities. I also prefer to work with oncology clients in general, as they touch my heart deeply.

I prefer NOT to work with prenatal clients. I don't have kids and did not want them, and I don't necessarily feel pregnancy to be a "beautiful" or "special" time. Frankly, prenantal massage bores me. And that's ok! :-)

I am currently working as a nanny, but am re training in massage therapy so that I can work in pregnancy massage along side maturity nursing.

I love to work with everybody.

Doing massage in Brevard NC is where I see more than a few professional and competitive bicycle riders as this little town attracts so many of them. African Massage is seeing more and more sports massage clients.

At this point in my career, after 30 years, I find working with those that are suffering with chronic pain, challenging and very rewarding. I have to actually think and study. Having someone come in for an hour and a half massage and fall asleep on the table in five minutes, is not my passion.
