Hi All-
I wanted to know if anyone had a favorite manual tool they used. I tried to use the Thumbsaver and felt it was very uncomfortable. I was thinking of getting the Hand L massage tool, http://www.massagewarehouse.com/products/hand-l-massage-tool-with-h..., but I wanted to know if anyone on the board actually used it. I'm a little cautious of merchant website reviews.
Thanks!

Hi Joyce, I love the Bamboo Fusion bamboo sticks - and so do my clients! They tell their friends about them too! I highly recommend them, if a person doesn't mind a few minutes of maintenance during the day (cleaning, time to heat, etc.).
I don't know anything about the Hand L.
I have used the thumby with great success http://www.thumbby.com/
it's very easy to use and once it's warm it feels like a human hand/thumb.
I also own and use two bodyrocks http://www.bodyrocks.com/ They have seen me through many years. About 5 years ago I had to work with a fractured hand and the bodyrock is what made it possible.
Kirstin, just wanted to let you know I went to the Body Rocks website and loved the idea! I ordered 2 yesterday. Thanks for the link!
The body rocks tool looks cool... I use various massage tools on myself.. Now Im using what they call a MASSAGE STAR. Got it at amazon.com... I use it on my hands and forearms.
Thanks everyone! These are all great suggestion! I've checked out them all and now have to figure which one to get! Thanks again.
Just wanted to let you know that after using the Body Rocks for a couple of days I ordered a bunch more of them (got them yesterday) and am making the switch from the bamboo sticks to the stones. I will still use the sticks for some applications, but the stones are more flexible in their uses. I'm still working out the bugs on how to heat them appropriately but I've only had them a few days!
The sticks went a long way toward saving my body 3 years ago, and I greatly appreciate that. But my practice is always evolving!
Therese,
do you still prefer the Body Rocks over the bamboo? Im curious, now that you've had them a while if you are still really liking them? Ive had a bamboo massage in the past and it was heavenly. Also, on another mt board, a therapist was saying that she was having a problem with the body rocks constantly slipping out of her hands, do you experience the same thing?
Thanks
Stacey
Hi Stacey,
The Body Rocks and the bamboo are good for different things. I'm brainstorming for ideas to use them together but they heat at very different temperatures which is posing a challenge. It's a learning curve to figure out how to keep the rocks from slipping out of my hands but I'm getting there. Many times I wipe my hands quickly on the sheets and that helps a lot. How I hold them makes a big difference too; it's been a lot to learn! But good...
The vast majority of my clients like the rocks better, but like I said a combo would be ideal!
The bamboo sticks are very much lighter in weight which is an advantage. The disadvantage is that it takes about 30 minutes to get them heated up. I have found that I can put the rocks in a Rubbermaid food container, cover them with water, heat them in the microwave for 2 1/2 to 3 1/2 minutes depending on water temp and rock temp, then dry them and put them in the heating pad to maintain the heat. No need plan ahead! So each have advantages and disadvantages.
Hope that helps!
Thanks so much Therese for your detailed explanation! That really helps me allot. I think I will purchase the body stones first and learn to work with them and hold on to them (lol) before considering the bamboo.
Thanks again and wishing you a great day,
Stacey
You're welcome! I'm glad to help.
There are a couple of ways to keep the stones hot. The website says that some people use a coffee mug warmer, something to hold the stones and with this method you keep them in water. To start with, this might be a good way to go because you don't need very many stones. They heat quickly in water. You just need a towel to dry them each time you want to use one.
What I do is use 6 of them, heat them in water and then put them in a heating pad (the same one I use for the bamboo, it's a moist-heat heating pad) on 124 degrees. Then I can rotate them as needed and I don't have to deal with water during the session. I don't have my room set up very well for water during a session - too much computer equipment because it's my home office too! The tub of water I can control pretty well and it's only in play for a few minutes.
Hey Joyce,
I have been asking around for years and have only found a couple of items on the market that have done the trick for me.
The Sattva Stone by Oro Vidri is by far my favorite! They recently rebuilt their website and when i went to purchase another Massage stone from them their store was closed online so I contacted them via e-mail and they were more than pleased to send me out another one of their super simple yet extremely efficient tools.
what I love about these things is their design and simplicity. They are made from a super dense glass which is super cleanable and can be warmed or cooled depending on your clients desires.. They are also Beautiful!!!
Take a look at them if your still interested and let me know what you think.. you can find the information at www.orovidri.com
hope this helps.
My wife has always lacked the upper body strength to sustain work on me for very long but now with this bad boy she can push away for as long as she needs and then go back in to fine tune things with her hands.
I LOVE THESE THINGS!!
definitely worth inquiring about if their store is down
