I was involved in a long debate with doctors and scientists involved in body in mind on linkedin.  The doctor I argued with took the stance that pain is 99% in the mind, and therefore can be mentally controlled / eliminated...that trigger points are not real--because science is unable to prove their existence, so MTs therefore cannot be credited with relieving pain.

I pointed out that science still cannot quantify pain; that pain is subjective, that his 8 could be another person's 3 on the pain scale.  That the only thing of import is the fact that neuromuscular pain is very real to the sufferer,  and massage therapists skilled in trigger point therapy are better than all other professions at relieving it.

Brain cells called pericytes can be reprogrammed into neurons with just two proteins, pointing to a novel way to treat neurodegenerative disorders.

No words in this article regarding massage therapy's potential to help the sufferers of mental illness, but surely an area that desperately needs our skills?

http://www.nami.org/Template.cfm?Section=About_Research&templat...

36,000 people a year kill themselves due to mental illness.... and that's just the USA !

Can you see yourself as ever having the skills to be part of a team that gets these people into stable mental health?

Hi Gary,  there is a ton of stuff that wizzes through on face book. I use this site as my library where know I can locate it easily. But best of all    I get to share it with enquiring minds on massage professionals.
