Hey Emma...i think social networks work because wouldn't you go to an MT that you saw listed on one of YOUR friend's pages with a great recommendation versus some random person in the phone book? the trick is to get people to be active on it.
i'm struggling in that department but i've only had it for a few days. @Gail...thanks for joining AND posting!!
i'm also trying to encourage people that get massages to post up in the Review section. something like that, i think, is invaluable once you can get it going.
i am having complete opposite weeks. last week every day DRAGGED. i'd look at the clock feeling exhausted from working for hours only to find it's ONLY 1 pm. :) This week i'm feeling exhausted from working and look to find that it's ALREADY 1 pm!!!
hahaha go figure.

I don't know,I think if I needed to find a MT,I would look in the phone book,or call the local chamber of commerce for a referral. To me face book is a big time social network,but that's because I have kids in their twentysomethings and I know at least one of them uses it to keep up with what her friends are doing when she's too busy to talk to them herself,she has also used it for dating wich freeks me out.
I don't mean to discourage anyone,honestly I don't know anyone who uses it for business so I could be totaly wrong,That is just as you would say my two cents.
Anyone else having a hard time getting back in to a swing after that holiday??

See, my twitch is that I've got plenty of personal material online--not on Facebook--and I know good and well that stuff on the internet never really goes away. I've lived a rather alternative life, and while I'm not ashamed of it, I've been burned plenty of times in professional environments due to being open, honest, and myself. There's just stuff that doesn't need to come up in a business environment, especially one as relatively conservative as massage.

I'm with Choice...FB is whatever you make it out to be. Why are you so worried about people stalking you Marissa? s*** i figure if i'm that interesting to be stalked...yay for me. hahaha :)
but seriously...like Choice said, my personal FB account is private and only people i know i befriend. and should anyone piss me off i just take them off. my personal information is limited but since it's only people i'd be ok with getting in touch with me, i don't worry too much about listing a few things.
The only thing i'm nervous about is in not knowing how my personal account will affect the business account. It's in that which I don't want any crossovers.
I'm up to 23 fans in just a couple of days...but most of them are people i know so they don't count...shhh don't tell them!! :) but today i created my first FB ad. we'll see how that goes. here's what it looks like:
hopefully i'll get some new (non-friends) fans. that'll be the real test of FB. i'll keep you posted.

Marissa, have you tried to do a FB ad? it might be worth testing it's worth.
on thing i like is the ability for clients to post up reviews under the Reviews tab.
