i usually am pretty straight forward with my "talk". i say "ok let's talk about nudity. you are always fully covered by the sheet. however, it's always best to be completely nude underneath the sheet. the reason for this is because many issues that can be causing problems can be happening at the attachement sites". this is where i show them how the hamstrings attach to the gluts and how the lower back attach to the gluts. then i say "it is a lot easier for me to work those areas if you are completely undressed. however, it's also very important for you to be able to relax. so ultimately you should undress to your comfort level".

i say this like clock work for each new client. i also make sure to ask before all of that as to their experience with massage. this way i know if i'm talking to someone completely new or someone who's had massages.

all my clients but 1 have had no problem completely undressing. for some of the new to massage clients, i have gone as far as to show them with the sheet how they would be draped ahead of time. and with all of them i explain that i will leave the room to get my heating pad warmed up. this gives them plenty of time to undress and get comfortable. i end it with letting them know that i will knock before i come in.

with all THAT said...Gerry i would say tell them to undress down to their underware. but add that they should take their bra off however, so that you can work more easily on their back. i think when you bring into the mix of that conversation the WHY it makes the client a little more relaxed.

I have a somewhat serious question to ask and this seems to be a safe group to ask it (maybe).

I do apologize for it is a bit massage related but I think you'll understand. (I hope)

In the course of a massage, during that time I inform my client what level of disrobing I would like for them to do, I have been criticized for using the term "under panties". Example "We are doing a full body massage so please disrobe down to your "under panties".

What would be the politically correct term a man should use when referring to a woman's under panties (under briefs, underware bottoms, knickers, etc.) so that he does not potentially weird out his female client or commit a faux pas? I specify bottoms because I have found using the blanket term underware often results in the client leaving their bra on. Any suggestions?

Could it be that the client that criticized the remark is just a bit hung up? I was too sidelined at the time to ask her what term she would prefer me to use.

Peace

I'm really trying to behave myself and ya'all are making it hard to do so! Lisa, I won't tell if you don't! Hot toddy of choice on my end is a Peppermint Paddy. Hot chocolate w/ a healthy dose of peppermint schnapps.

i'm gonna have to come to Trevor's defense and say his error in "pearl" is the way they speak over there. but if the thong should prove ugly...then we know he's never knitted a day in his life!!! :)

I'm glad to see in my absence today, the group sunk to new lows. Trevor...i'm flattered...but i think it'd be more like knit 8 pearl 7...i'm a curvy woman. ;)

Erica...i had the first fire of the season just a few days ago. it was SO nice. now i'm outta wood. :(

Emma i was laughing on Friday...or was it Thursday, when it was snowing in New England!!?? i don't miss that about CT as all!!

Vodka....blah I'd rather have some red wine on a cold New England day or maybe some Irish Coffee WITH whip cream...but don't tell the weighty group. ;)

VODKA...comrades - Emma it can keep out the New England cold. Trevor, could you knit me a little vodka holding belt?

The sweater's cotton, rather than wool, and it's well into autumn in the Colorado mountains now. We've had a fire going in the wood stove off and on since late September.

As for dignity, I think laughter is far more valuable. I'm pretty much a huge dork whenever possible. :D

I'm keeping quiet as promised, but wanted to ask if anyone else needed some knitting done? I didn't get much practice with Lisa's thong, knit 2 pearl 2 and it was done.

Hey Erica! explain further we're all ears.
PS. are you not a bit hot in that thick wollen sweater?

Stephen--dignity is highly overrated. I should know. :D
