There is something elemental to understand about weight loss. It is a life style change. I know you've heard that one before... I hate it, but it's true. There is not a magic pill or cure all diet. Even surgery requires proper nutrition and exercise. There are several small changes that you can implement to get going with your mission.
1) Park farther away from the stores. Just that little bit of extra walking when going to the grocery store helps a lot!
2) Always plan your menu in advance and write a shopping list. Sit down Friday evening and plan your "menu" for the week. Tuesday: Spicy Tuna Wraps, Wednesday: Grilled chicken kabobs, Thursday: Thanksgiving meal, Friday: turkey noodle soup, etc. Write out a shopping list of what you need and stick to it. This allows you to have well planned out home cooked meals (less last minute drive through) and will help you from having those odd impulse buys at the store.
3) If you are a pop/soda drinker: switch to diet. Giving it up is best, but it may be a very difficult thing to do. I was a huge pop drinker and it was very difficult. DON'T DRINK YOUR CALORIES!
4) Drink 1/2 your body weight in water(ounces). EX: weight is 200, drink 100 ounces of water per day. This is a tough one. There are a lot of people out there that don't like water. So, add the crystal light drink mix if you have to. And always try to drink at least 32 ounces before you eat anything. A lot of times the body thinks that it is hungry when in fact it is thirsty. Every time you go to grab a snack, drink water first and wait a few minutes to see if you're still hungry. Drink another 32 ounces before each meal. It will help to fill you up and be less likely to over eat.
5) Eat 2 side salads per day. A side salad with light or fat free dressing gets you your veggies and also helps to fill up some of that empty space in your tummy before you go to the main course.
These things helped me lose 80 pounds. Some have creeped back on, unfortunately, so I will be applying my own little tips as well. It is very easy to get caught up in the day to day process and forget to take care of ourselves first. We will be able to give so much more to others when we are happy, healthy, and able to take care of ourselves.
Wishing you all the best of luck with your own lifestyle changes. Any other tips and ideas would be greatly appreciated. There are so many of us struggling every day. Any little thing can help.
I think another good tip is that you don't have to do all your exercise at one time. If you are busy try and break up the exercise into smaller increments, it is not all or nothing...take the stairs instead of the elevator, park further away and walk and try to get in some stretching or yoga every day, every little bit helps!
