I have often thought there should be a biggest losers Massage Therapists Group although I think the Biggest Loser show is unrealistic and too intensive for regular people.

I try to be sugar free and gluten free. It has helped alot!

My problem is lack of exercise and have bad knees that I am working on getting better! I always mean to take a Yoga Class!

This record-keeping you speak of just might work for me, I've never tried that. I seem to be a carb junkie & since this discussion began, I noticed how guilty I feel now after consuming a plateFUL of ravioli...so I shall begin with portion control and a chart for a healthy pie...chart. (I meant Pie chart! Really!) My daughter brings home so much dessert from her experimentings in pastry, I'm happily weary of sugar anymore. My best friend Grace is a yoga instructor and she will be starting a class in January that I can actually get to twice a week, so she will help keep me on track. Once the snow comes (feels like it could be tomorrow around here) cardio will be done on the treadmill (which is now in the middle of the livingroom and will not be ignored) and my cc skis...failing that, I can stand outside & just shiver off some pounds.

My motivator is, I really enjoy being flexible and strong, and get so depressed when I can't function like I like to. Right now (thank heaven for stretch denim) I have trouble putting on my boots without getting gouged around the middle...that's where it all seems to be these days, completely obscuring my pelvis (I know it's in there somewhere.) Wish I could still ride horses, I never had to think of weight back then but my back got so angry with me, I was spending a fortune in chiropractic care. Thanks for the tips, ladies! Charts & Goals! (Who was it that said getting old isn't for sissies? Was it May West? Bette Davis?)
Marilyn- Did you know that pasta portions are only about 1/2 a cup? Depending on the size of Ravs, you may only get about 6? Breaks my heart over and over again.
Julie- That's how this all got started! Discussing favorite TV shows. Mine is the Biggest Loser. Pardon the pun, but it blew up from there. Yes, we all don't have 8-10 hours a day to work out. That's why they go to the ranch.
Rosemary- My favorite geek, you! LOG, LOG, LOG! That is truly when I've succeeded too. When you keep track of every little bite that goes in to your mouth, it's an eye-opener. And, the only person who needs to see it is you. Don't fudge anything! The only person you are lying to is yourself. And doesn't that just seem moronic?!?!?!
My exercise plan is the treadmill and/or elliptical for about 20 minutes plus some ab & legs exercises and streches at the gym (just depends on your specific target areas). If I don't make it to the gym I switch up different dvds at home. I have yoga, Pilates, 10 min ab exercises (which are great if you're pressed for time), and different dance ones. I've found that a combination of the 10 minute ab exercises and a dance video work great. I've been dancing for a good amount of years so I personally enjoy doing it on a regular basis, but I definitely encourage people to try it out. Even if the moves aren't perfect you're still getting a great workout and having fun. :) I hope this helps a few people out. Just keep motivated!

I have been logging in at Sparkpeople.com every day, it is a free website that you can track your exercise and food intake. I also do a class called BodyJam which is a fun way to work out as it is dance based. But the problem is getting to the class. I haven't been able to get there for weeks now! I am bummed out!

ok so this time I am giving Maryann Williamsons book "A Course in Weight Loss" a try. It approaches weight loss from a spiritual level and tries to help you get to the core your weight issues instead of just altering the way you eat/ exercise. I have lost weight throughout the years but it always seems to find its way back to me.I guess my new approach is to find out why this keeps happening. Best wishes to everyone who is on this path with me!

I have a ton of weight loss and diet books on my book shelf collecting dust. My biggest issue is that I don't eat as I should so my metabolism has slowed to a halt! I own my practice so many times I find myself skipping meals and then eating late at night when I get home. Also I swear the stress of trying to keep my doors open must have me packing on pounds too. I am seriously considering Jenny Craig as I need to lose at least 25 lbs. Last year I hired a trainer and went to her 3-4 times per week for 2 hours of custom cardio/weight training and nutritional guidance. I lost 30 lbs to hit my ideal weight. Since then I've gained back 25 of that :-(.  Money is tight now so I really want my next plan to be something that will keep the weight off indefinitely. I know that whatever I do will require lifestyle changes and will involve getting my husband and son on board - both of them eat fried foods and other junk for days (dear hubby buys/cooks it even though I ask him not to) and never gain a gram of weight. I stick to baked lean proteins, low sugar and lots of veggies and fruits and they eat whatever they like -- no fair (grrr).

My current plan includes walking at a brisk pace (4 miles/hour) for 1.5 - 2 hours every other day, eating 6 small meals a day starting when I get up and ending before 7pm, cutting out all sugar including juices (one of my biggest sins is drinking orange juice) and continuing to eat lean baked or broiled proteins, lots of veggies and fruits.  Also, I've been using a couple of free Androyd apps on my phone to track and manage calories and my workouts. They are called "Noom" and "CardioTrainer" -- truly awesome and best yet they are free!
