I hear from massage therapists many times that they have been asked to sign a non-compete agreement when accepting employment. Here’s my take on that: There are enough aching bodies and stressed-out people to go
around.
I have a decent-sized staff of 14, and I have never asked a single soul
to sign a non-compete. Most of my staff members have been with me for years, and I am certain if one of them left, a certain amount of people
would follow them out the door. It has been…

Good Morning World!
Approximately two weeks ago, my brother-in-law wrecked his motorcycle and ended up in the ICU with a serious brain injury known as Diffuse Axonal Injury. Now battling a case of menningitis thought to have been contracted from the catheter in his head to drain the excess cerebro-spinal fluid (CFS) his prognosis is unknown.
I just had a few tips I want to share with anyone who has to go through this with one of your loved…

Does anyone currently do insurance billing for massage? I am getting interested in doing this and I have read several books on it but I am still trying to figure out what insurance companies are best to try to contract with or is it better to just look for referrals from chiropracters and physical therapists? Any input is appreciated. Thank you!!

There was a recent article http://well.blogs.nytimes.com/2010/06/02/phys-ed-does-massage-help-after-exercise/ in the NY Times where associate professor, Michael Tschakovsky performed a study to answer this question: “Does massage increase blood
flow to muscle and/or reduce the quantity of lactic acid after
treatment?" His specialty is the study of blood flow to…

I just purchased a hot stone set and am wondering about the impact it will make on my electric bill. What are your experiences with this?

I walked into work months ago and the office manager said a lady stopped by the office and wanted to meet me. The lady was moving to town and going to open a new massage business at the new chiropractor’s office. I did not think much of it. Massage therapists had come and gone in my small town. I had an established business and pretty much forgot about the newbie coming to town.
Months later I went up to…

Hello I am new to the Massage & Bodywork Professionals community. I am still in massage therapy school with 6 weeks left to graduation. I find that massage is as beneficial for myself as the clients I work on. I am eager to learn new modalities, strokes and what exactly is my niche in the industry. Thank you for all the kind welcomes. BJ

Massage therapy is much more than just alleviating back, neck, or limb stress - it's also a highly developed tool used in a range of industries, including healthcare, on cruise ships, and in spas. Massage therapy itself is a growing industry. Not only are massage therapists increasing in ranks, but pay is on the rise as well. It appears we – as massage therapists - are trying to fit all the definitions of massage into one basket, hence trying to serve all populations with a single, definitive model. Historically, massage has origins from post World War rehab in physiotherapy and nursing, where massage was one of many methods or modalities applied in the larger scope of these two professions. Massage also hails roots from the European spa/aesthetic field and, of course, there are influences from… Continue
