This year I wrapped up five years of service on the North Carolina Board of Massage & Bodywork Therapy. Anyone who has ever sat on a board will probably agree with me that disciplinary hearings involving massage therapists are one of the most stressful parts of that job. It was for me. I estimate that during my time on the Board, I had to sit through approximately fifty of them. It was very distressing to see my fellow massage therapists trying to defend themselves–and in a few cases,…

I am very new to the Massage Therapy field. I am originally from Illinois, in which that is where I took my MBLEX exam. I had decided that after I took my exam and filled out the application for the Licensure, to move to Ohio. I did call Ohio state Medical Board and they told me that they would not be accepting the MBLEX till the first of the year. Now, that it is accepted in Ohio, I am still waiting for Illinois to send me my License! I have called them numerous times in regaurds to…

Dear friends.
It has been a lovely year 2011 for me with lots of challenges, learning, bonding, loving, sorrow, happiness, getting, giving and most of all making a difference to myself and in any little way that I could, to the world. Each one of you was instrumental in this beautiful journey. Your likes, words of appreciation and advice meant the world to me. Thank you so much and wish to have your support in 2012 too.
Wishing you "A very Happy and Prosperous 2012" that gives you…

I started to take the day off from doing my usual Sunday blogging…it is, after all, Christmas, and no one expects me to work on Christmas, do they? I don’t really consider it work–maybe because I don’t get paid for it :) and anyway, it’s therapeutic. I need a little therapy today. This blog isn’t about massage, so consider yourself warned.
Each year when Christmas draws near, I find myself remembering a lot of Christmases past. Some of those memories are sweet, and some are upsetting.…

The right website name has to have one or two most important keywords. A short meaningful phrase is acceptable. If your business is about massage include the word ‘massage’ in your domain name.
It’s going to be difficult to select the name you want: a lot of good names are taken. Internet is going to to be 30 years in just a couple of years. So, what do you do?
Use synonyms of the words you target
Keep the domain name short or at least as short as possible. If people…

As I look back over 2011, it was a very good year. For the 8th year in a row, since I first opened my business, I am going to finish the year with a growth in sales and in my bottom line. That’s rather miraculous, considering the unemployment rate in my county has been between 14-16% for most of the year. Many businesses have closed. The foreclosure notices in the paper have far outweighed the job listings for the past couple of years. And still, we have thrived, and we had zero staff…

Hello,
I haven't been here very long but have noticed a couple questionable profiles that have cropped up. For a site that brings professional Massage Therapists together to compare experiences and learn from each other it would in my eyes be beneficial for administrators to look into the profiles making sure no questionable activities are promoted here.
By all means I am not a prude or close minded but feel there are other places for certain thoughts or intentions to be…

Every day, I get emails and calls from therapists who want some advice on problems in their practice. I usually can’t give an answer off the top of my head without questioning the therapist for further details, and visiting their website if they have one (and by the way, not having one is a problem in itself.) Even though two therapists may be having the same problem, there are a lot of factors that are different from one practice to another, that potentially have a bearing on my…

Lymphatic Drainage Massage (LMD) is intended to encourage the natural circulation of the lymph through the body. The lymph system depends on intrinsic contractions of the smooth muscle cells in the walls of lymph vessels and the movement of muscles to propel lymph through the vessels to lymph nodes and then beyond the lymph nodes to the lymph ducts which return lymph to the cardiovascular system. Manual lymph drainage uses a very light pressure and rhythmic circular movements to…

We all know a daily exercise workout plan helps improve the feelings of well-being but what do we do to first set up exercise in the first place?
We've been told to stretch or warm-up the muscles with a variety of methods. Now we're learning how harmful stretching is in the ways most of were taught and many of us disdained anyway.
While on the…

If you’re an employer of massage therapists, or you are a massage therapist who’s is employed by someone else, who “owns” the client? The short answer is, no one. People have the right to go where they choose, and to patronize whatever massage therapist they choose to patronize. The long answer is a little more complicated.
A friend of mine who employs other therapists in her practice was upset last week when an employee gave clients a reminder call from her own cell phone on her day…

Once again, the dancing bear can sit still no longer. (Me.) I was going to let it go, until a client of mine, an ER MD who works in countries around the world poked me about this topic as she often does, in regards to the massage industry’s reactionary behavior on issues of little matter. This is in regards to the Siri App and happy endings. Continued below….
Yet again, similar to last years focus on The View (or was it this years focus?) and comments made in regards to…

It might be a better idea if you're looking for a romantic interest to go to such sites/pages/blogs. This is a professional site, I was understanding and as it says in its title: for Massage and Bodywork Professionals. Please keep it that way.

Several weeks ago I wrote a snippet about Reiki; what it is and what it can do for you. (To find it, please look under the October heading). Well, I have decided to take it to the next level.
I had an angel reading yesterday and I was told there was a lot of baby energy around me. This isn't new. For the past month, I have heard this from several different people. But, I will admit, I do not want a child at this time. And I stated that to the reader. She…

This is the season for being thankful and I am. I wanted to single out ABMP at this time and highlight them yet for again sponsoring the World Massage Festival and their generous gift this week of a year's membership and insurance coverage for one year for the winner of the "Lucky 7" contest. You only need to be registered and attend to be in the drawing. One lucky winner will get everything they need to start a business from scratch, except the building. You can see all the prizes and…
