Things that made me go "Hmmmmmmm....." - MT Research in CIM Part II

"Hmmm...." can be said in many different ways, right?

It can be a good "Hmmmm...." from a "I gotta think about this" perspective. It can be a surprising "Hmmmm....." and unfortunately sometimes it can be a disappointing "Hmmmmmm...".

Here are a list of some of the things that got that reaction, the type of "Hmmmm...." and why!

* The role of massage therapy in public health. Hmm-Type: Made me think, had me ask questions of the big picture and where we're…

New website

I know there are writers who walk among us so I thought I'd post this. I have a new website for people interested in books, writing, publishing issues and editorial problems. If you want to check it out, go to www.chazzwrites.wordpress.com.
My M&B column is where the bodyworker hangs out. At Chazz Writes, I am the evil twin.

Disseminating, ruminating, analyzing, thinking. The CIM conference part I

Yes.....it's all of the above with regards to the Massage Therapy Research in CIM conference.

I'm not going to blog about the whole conference in one post. It would be too long. Instead I'm going to divide the info from it up into chunks and give different perspectives into the what-I-got-from-it package.

The post-conference calm has brought on a flood of thoughts on many different things. How does all this information relate to my practice? How am I going to change from it?…

California Police Cheifs Rallying Support to Kill State Level Regulation

According to a newly out Massage Today article, California police chiefs are rallying support to kill state level regulation of massage therapy implemented last year via the California Massage Therapy Council (CAMTC) as passage of SB 731. While this is being framed by the police chiefs as an anti-trafficking measure, it is actually a turf battle to retain local control rather than to let massage therapy be regulated as are other health-care… Continue

A Beginning, not an end

Its a tremendously exciting time! This Saturday (May 15, 2010) we will be announcing the release of the inaugural Massage Therapy Body of Knowledge (MTBOK) at the "Highlighting Massage Therapy in CIM" conference in Seattle, WA. Its been over a year since I started on the project, and the MTBOK itself took almost 11 months to build after the MTBOK task force began their work.

The task force has done an extraordinary job on this effort, and has spent many, many hours researching,… Continue

COMTA: A Contradiction?

COMTA (Commission on Massage Therapy Accreditation) is in dire need of volunteers, so why did they just get rid of a good one? I’m referring to John Goss, who has served COMTA for 10 years in several capacities,

including a stint as Interim Executive Director. Last week, during a meeting he was unable to attend, Dr. Goss was unceremoniously dismissed from the Commission.

I contacted Kate Henrioulle, Executive…

Massage Therapy Research Study wins FIRST place in Research Day Poster Presentation

Wow! I just finished my first research study: Does Massage Reduce Pain in Hospitalized Children

It was a 3 month study evaluating pain scores before and after a massage therapy session. 108 massage sessions were provided, how-ever only the first massage score was used in order to reduce patient/therapist bias. The study was presented this week at research day, and the poster presentation was judged by the attending clinical staff and the research board. The massage poster…
