Hi Tonya and Marcus,

Congratulations on starting school! ABMP has a ton of resources for you while you're in school and as you get ready to start your professional career. If you're not members already, check out the page here to learn some of the ways a student membership can help: http://www.abmp.com/home/#tab_students

If you're already members, log in and watch this video to help you get started!: http://www.abmp.com/membership/student_resources_webinar.php

Good luck!

Hi Tonya!  If you search the site, there are other threads asking this same question.  There's lots of good advice in them!  Well worth your time to look them up.

Good luck!

I agree w/ Marcus. Definitely look things up on YouTube. I STILL watch videos and read up on techniques. Constantly learning new things! Something that I love about this field.

Try to practice on as many people as you can outside of class. Especially the stuff you aren't sure about or maybe uncomfortable with. Practice draping and timing. Try various table heights to see what works best for you.

Give honest feedback to classmates. Not harsh, just honest. what did or didn't you like? what would you do differently? Was the work effective? You both will learn from it.

Study. Study with a classmate or group. Practice on one another and ask questions!!! It really makes a difference!

Really try to learn proper body mechanics and practice self-care. It is so important!

Thanks Ted!!!!

I've been looking into to ABMP and AMTA and will probably join them both!

some good advice... just wrote  a book called You Won't LEarn This in Massage School... it's practical advice and situations that you may come across in your career. check it out on amazon.com  Sorry for the shameless pitch but I hope it helps you a little bit. It's a great career and you are in for a great experience for sure.

thanks Marcus for the advice, sorry for such a lengthy time in responding to you. school has kept me very busy.
