Recently I posted a discussion "Uniting On Facebook". Many of us have now added each other as "friends" as well as "fans" of each others business/personal pages. Congratulations on that show of unity and support of your fellow therapists!
Now, I am suggesting we unite our websites. Any takers? Most search engines have "crawlers" that scan the web. The more your website address appears in those "crawls" among other websites, the more visible you shall become.
If you are interested and have a "Favorite Links" page on your website, please add those that contribute their websites. If you are interested in gaining more exposure and do not have a "Links" page, please add one to your website and display your fellow MTs sites.
Remember: the more your website appears on other pages, the more visible it becomes!

I am now creating a "Favorite Links" page on my website. I would be honored if you would include my website on your own "Links" page!

Marissa is this the same as reciprocal links or something different? i am still getting my feet wet in having a web site.
I believe so! Someone a little more web savvy may describe it better. From my, limited understanding, it will allow you to rank higher on google, yahoo, bing, etc. These search engines "crawl" every site that is submitted and the more your website pops up, the higher you get on their lists. This is another good reason to join Facebook, Merchant Circle, etc. Having your website linked with them allows more exposure. For instance: If you look up Two Rivers Bodyshop, you will not see my website appear. You will, however, see me on Facebook, Massage Professionals, and Merchant Circle. You can also find me through Yahoo local searches as well as Google local searches. Good to join them and it's at no cost. Again, the more you appear on the web, the higher you go! I may stand to be corrected though!

I would love to participate in this as well!

On most pages of my website one can add their website link and describe their services. (This is through a comments section that most pages have.)

Feel free to edify yourself and your company, list the massage products you prefer, etc., etc.

Marissa - I've to update my site and take the Christmas Specs off, so I will add you on to my links page when I do that.

OK, so here's a wee lesson in search engine optimization from a wee geeky squirrel. Links TO your site from other sites that are relevant to massage play a big role in you getting good placement in the organic listings within google and the other search engines. You've probably heard that content is really important and that's true - CONTENT IS KING. The QUEEN is LINKS TO YOUR SITE. So yep, Marissa, you're bang on. And BACK LINKING through reciprocal links is a brilliant way of helping your placement.
Now, when you're adding a link to your site from another, there are things you need to consider.
First, there's the anchor text.
This is the text that actually links to the site Like this
Anchor text is important AND the text that surrounds the link itself.
Since most new searches for massage therapists deal with people looking for an MT in a certain town, it's a good idea to have the word "massage" and the name of the town within the actual anchor text or the text that immediately surrounds it.

Good idea, Marissa, for sure. I'll add a link to you when I update my site (probably tomorrow).
I have to say, I'm finding it very odd that more people are not getting involved with this! It's a sure fire way to bring more potential clients to your website! Is it fear of client theft? If so, you can decide to only put websites of therapists that are not in your immediate vicinity. Is it due to the fact that you think it odd to put someone out of your area as a link? What if you have friends, family, or clients that are vacationing or relocating? Makes sense then. I would like some feed back from someone who does not wish to do this and a response as to why. No hard feelings, I am just really curious! :)
Hi Marissa,

I'd be happy to add you and Vlad as links to my website. It would be great if you'd add me as well:

Thanks,

Rick- I can give you two examples of a reason to connect.
1) I don't believe it matters where you are located to get more exposure. As the search engines crawl the web, the more frequently your website appears attached to other websites, the higher up you go on their visibility scale.
2) Personally, I have relatives that travel everywhere as much as possible. They are much more likely to book an appointment with someone abroad that I have some form of an association with. There's a minor accountability factor there. :) If you have friends or family who visit my area and you refer them to me, you know that I would go above and beyond in my service to them, because I have contact with you daily (directly and indirectly).

Hey Marissa,
I added you and Robin to my links page. I've still to change out my Christmas specials to Valentine specials yet, but I've to grow a few braincells and figure out what my Valentine specs are yet.
Anyway, you are now known in the squirrel world.

Got you Vlad! Robin- I'm still working on it. I've been having difficulties today, but will remedy it as soon as I am able. Thank you both!
Kris: working on yours next!
I hope to be able to add as many people as possible both here in the states and overseas. Plus, whenever I get to travel I will be giving you guys a call! :) MATW! Massage around the world!
