Brainstorming ideas on how to raise money for the Massage Therapy Foundation

OK, so I recently had a  clickfest around the MTF website and got a wave of guilt.

They have a list on the site of contributors to the MTF last year and my name isn't on it.  There's a reason for that.  I didn't give them anything.

Most people already know that the MTF is involved in providing grants for research, but they do much more than that.  They provide therapeutic massage to people in need, education and provide us with a free open access journal.

So I was thinking of ways in which I could give.  I could just write them a check, but I was also thinking of maybe doing something cool once a quarter and giving the proceeds to the MTF while providing massage too.

They have some information on different ways people can donate on their site (CE providers can donate proceeds from a class, for example), but I was just wondering if anyone had some interesting ideas on what we can do in our businesses.

I know that a lot of people got involved in helping raise money for Haiti and maybe this is the wrong time to throw this on the board, but I'm doing it anyway!

Thoughts?

I was thinking about how Angela was saying about if everyone just registered on this site gave $10 then it would be over $40,000 and how much the therapists could be responsible for funding.
Then I was thinking about it being estimated that there are between 265,000 and 300,000 therapists in the U.S.
That's a lot of people!
EVEN if just a quarter of those therapists are working and even if just a quarter of that quarter gave $10 it would be a lot of spondulicks.

OK, so this might be a bit of a mad idea.
You know the way we have a National Massage Therapy Awareness week?
So, what about having a National "Let's give to the MTF day"?
It would be one way of getting the word out and it might make a lot of therapists just write that wee check for $10, you know? Or is that just nuts?
I think that's a fantastic idea. And, why re-invent the wheel- why not promote MT during NMTAW, and support the foundation at the same time during that week by giving a donation. Or, maybe people could donate their tips just from that week, have a jar or something and they can promote the profession and the foundation at the same time by educating people about massage and massage research. I think I'll do that this year :) With FB and this site, I think we could reach a lot of therapists who would be willing to give a little bit!

Kim,
I think your idea of having it embedded within NMTAW is brilliant. It fits in well since part of the MTF's mission is to promote the understanding of massage, so it all goes hand in hand very well. Also, your idea of using facebook is great too.

Terry,
I like nuts. I like your idea of having the sign for the MTF and NMTAW too.

I think we might be on to something here........
NMTAW = National massage therapy awareness week right ?
Stephen,
Yup.
I think this year it's October 24 - 30.
OK, so the question is, do we try to go for "$10 from every therapist" and make it specific?
Then try to show that if every therapist gave just $10 we can do so much in research? Then we throw it out there during NMTAW. I'm sure no one would object to this, right? I mean, there's no drawback that I can see. Can anyone else see a drawback?
I think everyone should be able to manage $10 and I'm sure quite a number of people will contribute more.

If so, can someone come up with a catchy marketing phrase to grab people's attention?

Love it!
Maybe a "to do" list written on the palm with
1. wash sheets
2. order lotion
3. donate $10 to MTF
