that even in emails from the World Massage Conference, letting me know about Whitney Lowe's free presentation...that I still have to have Massage Envy shoved at me. I know they are big time sponsors in the massage world...but come on!!

I personally love working for Massage Envy. I think all the misconceptions out there have given Massage Envy a bad name, at least from what I have read and what I have seen from working there. They have provided me with 46 CE hours in my first 6 months of employment for which I am truly grateful. I could have had more except I was not interested. I work for them most weeks 19 hours over 4 days. I could work more for them but I choose not to. I do 2 sessions and have a break and do 2 more. The owners I work for in Pensacola, FL are wonderful folks and treat us very well. I am given choices and they respect my decisions. Yes, they would love for me to work more hours and I choose not to. I work on state of the art electric tables, have all my suppies supplied for me from nice clean linens laundred by a linen service to lotions, creams, oils, Hot Stone equipment, state of the art computer booking system, etc, etc, etc. They opened in Pensacola in May 2009. We did 450 massages that month. In Feb we did 1300. They employe 22 massage therapists here in Pensacola with all kinds of varied experience from right out of school to up to 15 years experience. Thank you Massage Envy for a job and for sponsoring the WMC, WMF, and many other of the massage conventions throughout the USA and Canada. This makes my education free as an employee.
Darcy,
I'm glad to see someone stick up for Massage Envy.
Makes a nice change!

Lisa,
Big business - what can you do?
It's kind of funny though how "big business" has just hit the profession in such a big way with potential employers though, right? Here's a question - if it was Biofreeze, would you have a problem? What is it about the fact that it's ME (just from a business standpoint, without gong into whether they're a good or bad thing since that horse has been whipped) that's irking you?
i think i would have preferred NO sponsorship thrown at me. We all know what companies offer what out there. I just don't like when there is a perceived monopoly on something.

I think Massage Envy has it's place in our profession. I just don't like how it's all consuming lately. I'd rather a fair balance of sponsorships IF it's gonna be thrown at me.

I understand how just being a therapist you would say that Lisa. But putting on these events is very costly. Sponsors and vendors offset the costs for therapists. I think you, too would accept the money if you were in this position.

You had AMTA with a monopoly on membership. You have MTF with a monopoly on research. Now Massage Envy has reached the top as the single largest employer of therapists. All this too will change. ABMP has already replaced AMTA as the membership leader. So you are isolating just one monopoly in the profession. We are in our "organizational infancy". Things will change!

Thanks Vlad. On my way there now. Thank you Massage Envy for my job!

Oh, and did I mention that on September 14, 2009, Massage Envy did a fund raiser for Massage For A Cure and raised $600,000.00 for the Amercian Cancer Society nationwide? Forgot that one. Oh me. My mind races sometimes. What an event that was here in Pensacola. I just loved it. I know it was not the MTF but just as important to me. Giving back means a lot to me as that is how I live. I give so I can receive and give more. Yes they sponsor so many events. In my book we need them to sponor. I would not want to pay $5000 out of my pocket so I could attend a Massage Event. Would you? Keeps my prices low and I just love FREE!
I was thinking about this too today... and why don't they use all that money that they are paying for advertising on tv and in Oprah to pay their therapists more and teach them how to work on people and develop relationships. I read an article I think in Massage Mag a few years ago that only 25% of people who go in sign up for memberships!

Julie
I have great relationships with my clients I have at Massage Envy. Pensacola is begining to do a customer relation workshop to help with this. This is only at Pensacola though. We have Great owners here and a great clinic. Different from all the rest I understand. I am perfectly satified with my pay. Last night I did 3 massages and made $122. I think that is great. I have already had one pay increase at 6 months and I hope another at 1 year. There is no cap on how much one can make at Massage Envy. I do not know what other's closing % are but mine is in the 30% and one of the male therapist is 42%. So it is there. You all just don't hear about it all. We have a fantastic clinic in Pensacola.
