My name is Aaron, and I am a research fanatic. I hold a bachelors in psychology, and the process of getting that degree introduced me to research as a whole. I have written research proposals, performed research experiments and have presented my findings to my peers. I spend some (definately not all) of my free time paroosing the internet, looking for new studies, emerging modalities and anything massage related. I honestly think that understanding the research behind this profession can…

Have any of you found that there are more sailing pros in SF?
I've been working on good handful in the last couple of months with the America's Cup coming to San Francisco.
My CMT is planning to move to Southern California and I'm starting to interview for a new person to work on me.
Are there many SF Bay Area Massage Practitioners looking to find massage partners? If so, I would love some referrals or if you're interested let me know. My current massage partner and I…

Yes, I’m in pain. Believe it or not, it pains me to write negatively about the National Certification Board for Therapeutic Massage & Bodywork. I am personally acquainted with many of the people who work there, from the CEO, Mike Williams, on down, to Board members, staff members and volunteers. I count some of them among my friends. I know for a fact that they are dedicated and hard-working people.
I’ve been NCTMB since 2000 and…

There’s no shortage of people who will eventually find themselves suffering fromlower back pain (LBP). The reasons for pain in the lower back can be numerous, and trying to get to the bottom of it can bea frustrating and daunting process.
Traditionally, the typical causes of LBP can be related to a physical breakdown of the integrity of the boney structures, the joints/articulations, or the myofascial unit in the low back. Another causal factor may be…

It’s all about me, so here’s my wishlist for the profession. It’s difficult to place these in order of importance, because some of them depend on each other, and in my little corner of massage, they’re all important. It’s election time–aren’t we all just about sick of hearing about it–candidates mudslinging and making campaign promises? If I was the President of Massage Land, here’s what I’d do:
The Federation of State Massage Therapy…

About 5 years after graduating from high school, I found myself bouncing around doing odd jobs while trying to figure out my purpose in life. I had been attempting to eek out a living as a martial arts and boxing coach, personal trainer, and professional dancer. Things weren’t going too well though, as my wife and I found ourselves having more month at the end of our money, if you know what I mean?
I hadn’t really discovered what my true calling was,…

I am new here with blogging and came to read others experiences with their passion. It is mine, anyways. However, for five years, I've been unemployed, since the whole country went into lay offs in resorts, or change in management because of it.
I've been a therapist since 1997.
I have been out of touch with much because of health and financial reasons and living now so far into the 'woods', literally, haven't been able to be back into working, yet. However, feeling…
ContinueGetting massage covered by health insurance is always a hot topic. Many MT want to stay out of the healthcare business and not get into working with insurance and the medical profession claiming that it takes the 'art' out of doing massage. The medical profession and insurance companies are seen as places that will eat massage therapists for breakfast!
On the other hand, getting massage covered by health insurance in every state can help the profession become more of a profession. …

If at first you don’t succeed…
Try, try again. That’s what the regulatory board in my home state of North Carolina is recommending when it comes to getting the Federation of State Massage Therapy Boards to do something about the confusing status of continuing education approvals.
Two years ago, the NC Board of Massage & Bodywork Therapy introduced a resolution…

As exciting as it may seem, having a newborn is certainly not a walk in the park. Dealing with erratic feeding schedules, disturbances in the sleeping pattern, and constant dealings with unexplained crying may sometimes just too much to be deal with. All of these spell stress for the parents, especially for the new ones. However, before you fuss and lose control, be…

There’s nothing earth-shaking in the world of massage politics on my radar this week, so I’m just going to make a few observations. I know that I am about to step on more than a few toes here, but it must be said.
I’ve got a few thousand massage therapists in my social networks (FB, LinkedIn, Twitter, Google +). In the mornings, when I’m drinking my coffee, I visit those sites and scroll through to see what people are up to. I like to read that people are having success with their…

Nearly two years ago, the Tennessee Board of Massage Licensure voted to change its rule pertaining to the examinations approved for licensure of massage therapists. They chose to adopt the Massage & Bodywork Licensing Examination offered by FSMTB as the only approved exam – and sunset the use of the National Certification Examination for…
