massage and bodywork professionals

a community of practitioners

as much as i am LOVING this site...i'm not loving the gazillion of small groups that are popping up. coming from the tech end...i wish it were more viewable as forums that we can go in and post than groups. there are so many of them now that it's hard to keep track of what your in and where to talk about what. my mountain bike forum started the "group" thing but quickly got away from it. and this site makes me realize why. :) just food for thought. it might be nice to have the groups for truly segregated things like areas whe live in. but so many of these groups should be basic conversation we can see readily in ONE location. for instance, my mountain bike club has one forum area. the window opens up to a list of general topics (ie racing, general discussion, commuting, maintainence, etc). then under each category, you would find various threads. i'm just wondering if a similar organizational structure would work better here. there are so many groups that i am sure i don't even know all that's out there. and i'm certain a lot of the groups (besides the ones very specific to a location, etc) have cross over discussions. for instance there is a web site group and a marketing group. but the reality is those conversations all fall under the same heading.

anyhow...i LOVE it here and am just offering some suggestions. it would seem that since i've joined, it's already grown by leaps and bounds and that's only a little over a week. if it continues, and more groups are added it'll be harder and harder to get easy access and lots of topics.

any one else wanna pipe in or do i need to take off my graphic/marketing head when i come here and just wear my massage one? :)

I suggest you start a group for discussions and conversations like this Lisa!

I think you're right with the amount of groups piping up though, it can be hard follow everything that's going on, saying that it could be really hard to change the architecture and structure of groups now it's all working.

But you might want to ignore me cause I plainly can't type or spell!

Hi Lisa the group thing is going to get out of controll. I am not joining any more groups as I cant keep up with the ones I'm in.
It sure is a fun educational networking site but I'm more used to fitting in to a site operator controlled area of discussion.
The site I use in the UK starts with a broad heading Therapies that takes you to a defined therapy only then can you post/discuss on. An individual cannot set up controlled areanas but can moderate them. When I set up the A+P group for example I have tried to stop posts on the comment wall and keep them in several different catagories in the discussion areana where they can be more easily followed.........................Thinking about it though if this site reaches its true global potential with 100,000 MTs chatterin away maybe you will be glad you just stayed in smaller groups????
Maybe Lara can tell us her vision of how this site will grow in 6mnths a year ??? I'm just glad I found it but I do Wonder about its future gifts/selling ect ect.
I'll ask Lara B to comment.

Regards steve
i'm glad some piped in...i was beginning to think it was JUST ME!! :)

I love this site...and anything i can offer (i'm putting my graphic design/marketing hat on) to help make it more efficient, easier to navigate (more intuitive)...just give me a hollar!! :)

i do think as this site grows by leaps and bounds as it's doing...the group thing is going to get more difficult and more importantly...great conversations are going to get lost for the general visitor unless we end up joining every group...and well that would just be insane.
I agree with you Lisa. Way too much time navigating this and too many groups to respond to. Thanks
I think it is great as is. Some are repetitious, but it is from another perspective. If folks would check to see if a groups already exist about the subject, before creating another, it would help. Otherwise, I think this is all fantastic! The more groups, the better. No one will reach them all, but all can contribute!
Hi Neil
I think you may have hit the nail on the head in that things are unlikely to be able to change and yes you are right its the v bullitin format that I'm used to.
I'm glad for the posters supporting this sites format ..........I guess we all can get used to it.
it's been my impression that groups are usually something you can turn on or off...but i don't know the back end of websites so i can't be sure.

i DO think that if we are stuck with "groups" then only the moderator should make them and that way there is some control over how many subjects are talked about in how many groups. i think some are using the group feature to make a thread about a subject. to me that should be done on the forum side so everyone can participate in it versus having to...1. currently look to see if there is even a subject on it 2. find the group for it 3. join the group and then 4. post a discussion. if it were all in the forum area you'd be able to see the subject more easily and therefore get a greater percentage of discussion within it.

but i'll shush up for now. just tryin to interject some ideas to make this place phenominal. cause i DO love it!! :)
I agree! I belong to a couple of message boards (not MT related) and the format is easier. I think people would get more responses to their questions if they were easier to find. Having said that, I do still enjoy the site as is, I just think it would be more productive having all of the conversations layed out like different forums and threads within the forums.
I often see things I'd like to comment on and don't because I don't want to join a million groups. So many discussions, so little time:)
Ditto! Right there with ya.
