MTBOK First Draft issued for public (this means YOU) comment!

Today we released the first draft of the MTBOK content. Its in a downloadable pdf document available at http://www.mtbok.org. Our press release is also available there.

JUST RELEASED Massage Therapy Body of Knowledge Project JUST RELEASED

Well, I'm so excited to say that it's finally happened! After many years of feverish work, the Massage Therapy Body of Knowledge Project has posted their first draft for public comment. On becoming a Certified Massage Therapist

Getting regular massage

I am a big fan of getting regular weekly massage. About 5 or 6 years ago I actually even just started paying for them rather than doing them in trade which was a big step and well worth it. I learn so much about working with clients even after 20 years of being in this profession. I have to say though I have the toughest time finding competent people who stay focused on the massage and me when I am getting a massage. Do you avoid basic 'belly-work'...even with pregnant clients?

I've found many workshop participants are uncomfortable performing hands-on abdominal work, i.e., pelvic and respiratory diaphragm releases and sometimes even superficial belly techniques. This seems particularly true when working with pregnant clients/patients.

Sanctuary Comes To Festival

Angie Patrick will bring Sanctuary to the 2010 World Massage Festival and Massage Therapy Hall of Fame. Proceeds from massages will be donated to Shriner Burned Children's Hospitals. Advanced Certification: The Long-Awaited Announcement from the NCBTMB

The NCBTMB announced today in a press release that the organization is getting on with the task of offering an advanced certification examination, with a target date for the exam to start beta testing in April 2010.

Practice What We Teach

How many times a day do we stress the importance of frequent massage and bodywork? Each and every client we see that day, correct? Well, the more I've been thinking about it, the more I've been realizing that there are a lot of us out there that aren't practicing what we teach! Think hard....when was the last time you had a massage? I had one 2 days ago. It was fabulous and I've slept like a rock the past two nights. The previous massage was 3 weeks before.
