Well, I'm so excited to say that it's finally happened! After many years of feverish work, the Massage Therapy Body of Knowledge Project has posted their first draft for public comment. This monumental project seeks to establish a basis for a consistent set of standards, scope, skills, and definitions of massage in order to unite the field on a national basis. Their work to date can be found at http://www.mtbok.org/index.html and you are invited to view the document. It's our profession - go…

Starting today I begin my journey to become a CMT. This program will run through next June so I expect to be pretty busy till then. The path I've been on to get here is an interesting one, at least to me anyway.....
When I first started taking yoga classes oh so many years ago, I never really thought about being a Yoga teacher. After 6 years with same teacher one Winter day I asked her what she thought of my practice. She told me I should consider becoming a teacher and explore some…

Hi,
I have been doing massage for 6 years, and over time have diversified into Spa Parties (www.pinkpapayaparty.com/myspaparty), and Isagenix (www.cindyflesher.isagenix.com). I love learning, and networking.

I am a big fan of getting regular weekly massage. About 5 or 6 years ago I actually even just started paying for them rather than doing them in trade which was a big step and well worth it. I learn so much about working with clients even after 20 years of being in this profession. I have to say though I have the toughest time finding competent people who stay focused on the massage and me when I am getting a massage. Is it just me being a massage therapist and being too picky or…

I've found many workshop participants are uncomfortable performing hands-on abdominal work, i.e., pelvic and respiratory diaphragm releases and sometimes even superficial belly techniques. This seems particularly true when working with pregnant clients/patients.
Do you feel belly-work is under-emphasized in massage trainings? Does the area hold too much emotion or possibly too intimate for some? I've written a short e-newsletter & posted a video showing some basic useful…

The NCBTMB announced today in a press release that the organization is getting on with the task of offering an advanced certification examination, with a target date for the exam to start beta testing in April 2010.
While I applaud any effort from them towards that at all, the issue here is that I think they're a little off target, before they get started. I have heard input from hundreds of therapists who would be interested in gaining an advanced certification in their area of…

I am starting a
new group here for massage therapists to talk about their websites or anything related to creating a website or blog.
Do you have a website and it isn't being found by the search engines? Do you have a website and it isn't getting you any new clients or making you additional money on the side?
Do you want your own selfhosted blog to talk about massage for your…

How many times a day do we stress the importance of frequent massage and bodywork? Each and every client we see that day, correct? Well, the more I've been thinking about it, the more I've been realizing that there are a lot of us out there that aren't practicing what we teach! Think hard....when was the last time you had a massage? I had one 2 days ago. It was fabulous and I've slept like a rock the past two nights. The previous massage was 3 weeks before. The one before that? 4 years. OUCH!…
