I volunteered for the March of Dimes with chair massages which I had a good time. I did however find out something that I had not known before, and that is that people don't know how to relax. I asked several clients to relax and they told me that they where relaxed when in fact they were as tense as a stretched rubber band. This has made me realize that we have been programed to be STRESSED, and don't KNOW how to relax with all that is going on in our life it is imperative that we find time…

Some people don't want to see new ideas. But new ideas are happening. Connective tissue is being viewed by some as far more than a packing material. Those in the collegiate world will dismiss the ideas that connective tissue isn't relevant when discussing posture, longevity, or movement. I disagree. I am not the scientist... I am merely a messenger and practitioner of hands-on bodywork. For the naysayers... step outside your box and take a look below.
The Architecture of the…

I recently opened a 2nd massage space through a fitness Center, Imagine Fitness. The scheme of colors are warm hues of golds and reds, dark mahoghany wood throughout the room, eye~ appealing and senses heightened, upon entry one achieves an immediate feeling of relaxation. The Menu of services include an Enhanced Foot Massage which offers a warm foot soak with sea salts, followed by a foot massage with peppermint lotion. Everything from achieving the new space to work out of, to creating the…

The MTBOK Task Force has been working away on the second draft which will be released for public comment at the end of January, 2010. We received almost 600 comments on the document after the first draft was released on September 15, 2009, and we have been going through the document reading the comments received, agreeing on what action should take place and making the changes.
We have also added some new content, moved things around where necessary and dropped some items. I think…

Keeping extra pounds from making an appearance during the holiday season is a challenge that many people face each year. With large family gatherings, company Christmas buffets and goodies a plenty from the oven, it can be hard to keep track of what we eat. There are a few simple steps that everyone can take to keep their portions in check, and thus keep their fat and calorie intake within normal bounds.
Always use a bowl or plate to hold you goodies when snacking. It is easy to lose track…

I have been doing some research on CE and am looking for info on why you take CE classes. I have a
quick survey on my website that would help in giving me some info for my next online project - a CE Resource Center.
CE is needed in almost every state I think. The thing is that many take ce classes only because they have to and not because they want to improve their business. People find…

I’m wondering if the old adages “no news is good news” and “bad news travels fast” have been responsible for my writer’s block the past couple of weeks. I do tend to report it when things go wrong in our profession, although I occasionally hand out kudos as well.
I started a series on the financial health of our organizations, and it attracted very few comments. The NCBTMB has still not posted their 2008 filing, which I’ve been waiting for with bated breath. The Federation of State…

My last few blogs have been describing acupressure points on the feet, and how starting with a brief foot massage can be a powerful way to help a client relax before moving into the main massage. I recommend that anyone joining our tours to China to learn acupressure, or Thailand to study Thai massage, study the points I blog about as they are major points located on the meridians. To learn more about our study abroad opportunities in Asia visit…

Twitter Twists
Twitter is all the rage!
Most everyone uses it (nowadays) as a marketing tool.
Nice!
Here are a couple of pet peeves that I see, not a lecture on how to use Twitter to grow ones business. (There’s a ton of material out there for that all ready.)
First off, are you putting yourself in your prospective clients mind? I see a couple of issues here:
1) Way too much babbling on about ones own skills. Yes, we do need to…

FINALLY, RESEARCHING MASSAGE TABLES IS MADE EASIER!!!!
I have been asked repeatedly where the best resource could be found to compare many tables and manufacturers warranty allowances at one time, rather than have to page hop and keep tons of notes.
One AT-A-GLANCE resource for anyone who is trying to decide on which table to buy! There is now a downloadable chart created by Massage Warehouse which compares many features and benefits on many of the leading table…
