It's happened to all of us before: picked a massage therapist out of the phone book and showed up to somewhere we've never been before only to be greeted by a massage therapist wearing a tee shirt and jeans. Right away, we start second guessing our decision of picking someone out of the phone book and some of us even leave!
If you are a massage therapist, one little accessory will keep this from happening to you ever again - a lab coat; and for an added image boost, a set of…

The whole Dalton Gang is in Providence this weekend for a workshop. Having a great time... just a few workshops left in 2010. Next stop Seattle, then on to Richmond, Tucson and the grand finale of the Blue Collar Tour in Austin, TX. Been a very busy 2010 workshop tour. Slowing it down a little in 2011 with only 4 strategically located workshops here in the U.S. and adding a second workshop in Costa Rica... Spring and again in the fall. Will announce locations and dates soon.…

I'm curious…with massage clients, how big a percentage is the physical massage in relation to your massage session, or, to the bigger picture of your massage business?
I can say 100%. Everything I do leads to the end result; a massage that is specific to what the client wants and providing an excellent massage.
I can also say about 10%. As an ‘in-home massage specialist’, I have the time to communicate a…

If there’s one thing I’ve learned from blogging about the massage profession, particularly when it concerns politics and/or the goings-on at the associations, it’s that there aren’t any secrets in this business. I’m pretty good at keeping secrets; I wouldn’t be able to write this blog without the help of sources who prefer to remain anonymous. This time the cat is out of the bag--concerning me.
In the next few weeks, the trade magazines will be coming out with an ad from the…

Many of us have experienced the feeling of walking into a beautiful spa, full of wonderful aroma's, beautiful designs, and a relaxing effect like no other. Many of the professionals are well trained and provide valuable assistance to the clientel. Like any experience it may take just one bad moment or action to distort the clients peace of mind.
I was speaking with a Spa Director at a Ritz Carlton Resort. This person informed…

How often should I get a massage? One of the most frequently asked questions, with one of the most annoying answers. It depends.
Of course if money were no object, the answer would be, every day. While we have heard about the legendary stories of Bob and Dolores Hope receiving daily massage, and how he gave it credit for both their longevity and vitality, I am not acquainted with anyone personally…

I never get headaches unless I drink more than one cocktail late at night. I am sure we have all awoken to a screaming headache after a night of drinking but for those who suffer from migraines, this is no
easy matter.
Recently, I’ve seen articles about migraines so I thought it may be helpful to write about what I have seen in clients who suffer from this debilitating issue.
First, many people who suffer…
