My Greatest Massage Teachers Have Been Horses. Lesson 1 - Muscles Talk

I was nine years into my massage career when I decided to expand my practice and study equine massage.  I was looking to relocate to Colorado to be closer to my family and I was growing tired of missing summer days spent in a dark room lit with only a dim candle.  I was ready for a change, but I didn’t want to steer too far away from one of my true passions – massage therapy.
An idea that had been suggested to me years earlier suddenly seemed to hold the answer: equine massage. …

Regulatory Board in Wyoming?

Does anyone know about the progress or activities occurring in the state of Wyoming in  moving toward formation of a regulatory board for massage therapy?  I graduate from massage school in October 2011 and I see the essential functions of a regulatory board for our profession as crucial.  How do I help or start making a major difference in this area?

I confess...

I confess…

I confess that I’m feeling a bit tired today; it’s been a long week and I’m worn out.  This post may be seen as just complaining...so be it.

I confess that the posts here are beginning to annoy me.  Regardless of topic, there always seems to be a ‘tit for tat’ or an ‘I’m smarter than you’ discussion going on.  I’m not looking for ‘bobble-headed oh I agree’ replies, or for everyone to get along or agree with what’s posted.  I’m…

Books here is the best

The fact that you read this should be sufficient proof that Internet publishing is changing the way companies communicate with consumers. That said, the thousands of press releases and / or articles published on the Internet every day only a handful of shows, let alone read, and a number of good reasons. The vast majority of writers to produce these publications not only do not know how to write the most, know little about the world of broadcast news releases on the Internet, not to mention the… Continue

Gathering a clientel

So, I've been.in class since March and so far have been having a blast. It isn't tip fairly recently however that I have had a strong interest in my services from friends. I now have about 25 regular clients that visit me and I find I am more busy than I can handle at times. The good thing is i am loving it. The bad news is I don't get paid for it as o yet. That's when the true clientel will shine through!

Mobile Massage Spa Party

With several years mobile massage behind me I'm branching more and more into doing event massage and in particular spa parties.

Just did a 60 person massage spa party with 10 massage therapists total and I learned a few things.

I wrote an article listing 10 steps to planning an onsite event. Let me know what you think. Spa Party Success as a Mobile Massage…

Very fortunate

I've been in the massage field for about 2 years now which i know isn't long and I enjoy reading about improving my skills every day and ofcoures educating those who know very little to nothing about the field and hope to start traveling next yr with my passion for massage. I currently work in a dental office that supplies me as a massage therapist and feel very fortunate to be there every day and hoping to connect with fellow therapists here;-)

Preparing for a Massage Interview - What Every Massage Therapist Should Know and Ask

Before you can start working as a massage therapist, you have to perform a massage interview to get the job, and interviewing for a massage position is quite different than most other interview processes. For many massage therapists, the first job they hold directly out of massage school is for a chiropractor, or a spa / salon owner instead of working as an independent contractor, and it's important to know what to ask in order to accept the right position. Understanding if you will work as an… Continue

You Say To-may-to, I Say To-mah-to

Actually, I’m from the south, where we often say “mater.” A ‘mater sandwich should be on white bread, slathered with an artery-clogging amount of mayonnaise, and eaten standing over the kitchen sink so it can run down your chin and drip appropriately.

Everybody has their opinions…I’m out here regularly expressing mine, and not everybody agrees with them. That’s fine by me. The world would be a boring place if we all thought the same thing, and the world of massage is no different.…

Protocols and Cookbooks

The use of protocols has gotten a bad rap in some areas of Myofascial Release. “Cookbook Therapy” it is often called. Certainly following a strictly defined treatment plan is out of line with most forms of MFR, but don’t we all follow certain protocols?

Each individual that comes into my treatment room is approached differently. That being said, there are certain trends that, in most…
