CAMTC Ceo

Laura, I too am astonished at the outrageous amount of money he's suggesting. Ridiculous doesn't even describe it. How embarrassing this would be for CA MT's and the Board if they agree to this. Thanks for bringing this to our attention.

I hope all massage therapists and bodyworkers out there speak up NOW. Or forever hold your peace.

Pregnant & Practicing (Part 1)

I have been urged by a couple of lovely ladies to start a blog in hopes of entertaining as well as offering support to others in the field who are pregnant and practicing. At this time, I am 8 weeks pregnant and have a lovely 4 year old princess/monster at home. Personally, I think all children at that age are given to bipolar-like traits, no offense. I own and operate Two Rivers Bodyshop in Ottawa, IL. The client load is moderate and growing each month. Much like… Continue

Why Get Hot Stone Massage?

Lately, I've had many clients asking about the benefits of using heated stones as part of therapeutic massage treatments.

There are many: the warmth of it is simply relaxing; also, just knowing that you are treating yourself to "something extra," adds to the positive experience of getting a relaxation massage; and it just feels good to have the weight of the stones removed at the end of the session because it gives the sensation that you are levitating over the table just a…

Giving Your Clients Permission

I often think about what advice I could give to massage professionals who are struggling with their new businesses. I wanted to build a steady business with regular clients, but struggled with one particular aspect of the business. Something others may also struggle with… rescheduling. Maybe it was because I was twenty, or a lack of confidence in my new skills, but asking if clients wanted to schedule another massage caused me a great deal of anxiety.

Nearly all my…

The California Gold Rush

My morning mail arrived with a packet sent by an anonymous contributor…copies of emails and correspondence concerning the California Massage Therapy Council (CAMTC). I must say it caused me to choke on my breakfast.

The CAMTC, according to their website, is currently conducting a search for a CEO. That’s not shocking news. What is shocking news is the insistence of former Board chair Ahmos Netanel, who is said to be gunning for the position, that the job is worth $348,000 a… Continue

So My Degree Means Nothing???

Let me first say, that if I mumble and ramble in this blog, excuse me. I am pretty upset about this and would like some feed back.

Now I work for a company where everything was all rosy in the beginning; offering better opportunities than the competition, which seemed to plan out at first. But as time has passed by, and this location has not been open for a year yet, the cons are beginning to show up. Anyone every working at companies like this always run into a problem with the front desk… Continue

Let...go

As we move away from 2009 and into the new year we have a renewed opportunity to let go of the old and embrace what could be. For some of us a fresh start comes easily-for others it can be difficult to leave it behind. I propose we look back and then let it go. It’s never too late to learn from our mistakes and celebrate our achievements!

The illusion of being in charge

Last week, my coworkers and I received a new contract in the mail. We are all listed as independent contractors, but this contract was an out-of-the blue surprise. There has been no mention of renegotiation from anyone in middle management hell - just a contract in the mail one afternoon to be signed and returned by a certain date.

The new and wonderful points to which we're to sign our enthusiastic agreement are:

The raising… Continue

A Present Parent and Practitioner

On May 25th, 2007, my career as a massage professional changed more than I ever could have imagined. When my husband handed me the most beautiful baby girl I had ever seen; my priorities and focus immediately shifted to a far greater, demanding, rewarding, and amazing job.

I was able to work nearly a week past my due date. I was comfortable and had the energy and desire to continuing working. I had every intention on returning to work after my maternity leave, at least part-time.… Continue

What better time to celebrate the healthful aspect of chocolate than in the month of cold grey days and Valentine's Day! This delicious delight has quite a history that spans many cultures. In approximately 1,500 B.C the Maya and Olmec people discovered the benefits of chocolate. They used roasted cocoa paste as the primary ingredient in a bitter drink hailed for its nourishing qualities and ability to… Continue

Becoming Friends with clients...

I have been having some really great discussions on here and on Facebook and my websites about the therapeutic relationship and what happens when you become friends with clients or engage in other dual relationships with them -nothing illegal like dating clients or sex of course but trading services like accounting or tax help and seeing clients socially.

I never was taught anything about this and in fact when I started out 22 years ago, massage was more of a lifestyle choice than… Continue
