The Librarian

Today, I took my daughter to the library for story time. As we collected our craft project, one my favorite touch studies came to mind. Many of you may have already heard it, but it always reminds me about the simplicity of massage and touch when I start making it all too complicated.

Librarians were instructed alternately to touch and not touch the hands of students as they handed back their library cards Then the students were interviewed. Those who…

Burn out

Within the past week, the Iowa winter has officially gotten to me. I happen to believe I tolerate winter as well as anyone else in the Hawkeye State. February typically brings the promise of warmer days, melting snow, and glimpses of spring. With incessant snow showers in the forecast, not a day over thirty degrees, an eight foot drift in my backyard, and getting our vehicle pulled out of the snow twice in one night; winter has worn out its… Continue

"The diamond cannot be polished without friction, nor the man perfected without trials."

Good Morning - It is a glorious day here in Portland Oregon and I am sitting in bed completely enjoying the sun rising and the birds chirping. The weather here is incredible this week. Thursday my sister was down with her family and we spent the day with all the kids at the coast. Check out my facebook page for some beautiful shots of the kids playing on the beach! Jealous, yet? Welcome to mid-February in the gloomy, rainy northwest!…

The California Gold Rush (A Response)

I am grateful for and learning quite a bit from everyone's comments on this blog.

After reading Laura's initial blog and posting my comments, I emailed each member of the CAMTC's BOD with my opinion. I received two responses by email. The following day, Feb. 11, I went to the meeting to observe the meeting and gain more understanding. I encourage other therapists to attend the meetings. I had the opportunity to speak one-on-one with a few board members and prospective members. Here are… Continue

If you will not give my certification...i just want my money back

Dear Sir/Madam,
It is depressing to received an information about your organization.

CAMTC Chair May presented a proposed budget for adoption calling for CEO salary and benefits at an annual rate of $330,000 per year (the maximum of the aforementioned range). CAMTC Board member Bob Benson (ABMP’s Chairman and one of two ABMP representatives on the CAMTC) proposed an amendment to…

The Power of an Online Presence

Having a website is one of the most effective external marketing methods that one can use in developing a massage practice. Marketing online offers several advantages over other forms of advertising. These include:

1. Low Cost - The annual cost of developing and maintaining a website can be as low as $250. Compare this to other forms of advertising such as running ads in phonebooks, local papers, and magazines. Print ads will often run over $100 a month.

2. Volume of People… Continue

7 Sure Fire Ways to Build a Massage Practice

7 Ways to Build a Massage Practice

1. Get Known by the Public. Reaching out with helping hands to the public is one sure fire way to build a massage practice. This can occur in a variety of ways such as attending health fairs, and giving massages at summer festivals and local health food stores. I have used all of these methods in the past, and it was common for me to get 3-5 new customers each time I did this.

2. Give Some Freebies. Offering freebies is a great way to get… Continue

Here we go again.

Yesterday I started a new job.

Four days ago I quit the old one.

You know that the old job, if you've read my first blog post, was turning into an unpleasant situation. It was a good thing I left given what the alternative would've been had I choked and stayed on.

The downside is that I left the location that was providing me the bulk of my…
